Apparently if you contact Pentax directly they can sell you this kind of thing. One of the few things you can actually get directly are hoods and caps. If that doesn't work try SRS Microsystems, I'm sure they can manage something.
It is a very expansive piece of plastic.

It's almost cheaper to buy a new lens than a new hood, which does seem very strange.

Pentax UK was my first port of call and they no longer sell accessories direct. Intro2020 is the supplier. I called SRS who suggested I buy direct from Intro2020 (who may be their supplier).Apparently if you contact Pentax directly they can sell you this kind of thing. John, I'm now thinking of buying a lens with hood on ebay, seems daft though!

AFAIK, SRS buy direct from Pentax, not a distributor. I also think, that as a distributor, unless you are a trade retailer, you can't buy from Intro2020 directly. . . but I could be wrong.I called SRS who suggested I buy direct from Intro2020 (who may be their supplier).
In my business, I'd certainly get more than a little upset if my customers were able to buy through distribution channels.

I had occasion to call Intro2020 this afternoon, looking for prices on some Pentax off-camera bits. They were quite happy to quote me £27 and £22 plus VAT for a Hot Shoe Adapter Fg and a Sync cord F5P respectively - they didn't ask me if I was a dealer.I also think, that as a distributor, unless you are a trade retailer, you can't buy from Intro2020 directly. . . but I could be wrong.
Why on EARTH are those bits so expensive ?????

I think they are out of order. Intro2020 are there to supply and support the retailer. The prices they quoted you may well have been full RRP. A retailer/reseller ought to be able to sell cheaper because they get discounts for buying in quantity.Mannesty wrote:

It's possible too of course, that the bits you were enquiring about don't sell in enough quantities for the retailers to take issue. Try buying a K10D from them and see what price they quote.

Rightly or wrongly, buying direct from a manufacturer/importer always seems to be at RRP. Try ordering a Billingham bag and see!

Hi Ken,
Peter is right - we buy direct from Pentax (although I also buy non-Pentax stuff from Intro as they distribute various well known brands)
I'm not sure who you spoke to here - I can get you a hood but as has been suggested its £29.99.
I haven't got them seperately, but I am more than willing to supply one from a stock lens straight away and get one in from Pentax for my lens at a later date if speed is of the essence!
Alternatively, I could sell you a refurb (as new) lens for £40 (which comes with a hood) and you have a spare lens (or you could sell this on and probably make a small profit!!)
I am not always around in the shop, but just ask for me and if I am not around just leave your number and I will get back to you ASAP - mention this forum and I will attempt(!) to sort 'a deal' out! (This applies to anyone who wants to speak to me, of course!)
Chris

That lens hood is priced in the Pentax User Club Magazine (we all subscribe, don't we?) at £30 minus 10% members discount.

I'm afraid not, not very keen on these clubby things

You're missing a nice quarterly magazine plus a discount on servicing (20%) and accessories (10%) all for £16.50 per year.
Best regards, John
