You can do it via menu or there is a button you press to cycle through the af options (which are displayed in the viewfinder)

I believe I could put up with that, still prefer the tactile feedback of a switch though.

I'm going to stick my neck out and suggest the photo is a fake: look at the crude cut of the surface material around the bump. Surely even per-production models would be better constructed.

Perhaps the bump is a new housing / location for the focus motor to provide space for a full frame mirror assembly.
