Auto EV is always "off" on my cameras.

Has anyone found an actual reason why the front e-dial stops working properly? Mine works very erratically whenever it is used, i.e. when I had it set to operate the exposure override in Av, when using to advance through images during previewing on the rear screen, etc. I can't remember when it started but it may have been when I installed the latest firmware v.1.11 which I am told was supposed to correct problems with the front e-dial, but I can't be sure. It is something I can work round, by simply not using it, but I would prefer to find a cure! Any comments appreciated.

It was probably coincidence that it stopped working correctly when you installed a new firmware. It is a fairly common fault (yes another one) with the K-7 and K-5.

If you are within warranty then send it back .. from what I have read its something to do with a dodgy connection.

It is within warranty - 2 years because I purchased it from SRS, so once the main clicking season is over, I will send it back for repair.

I keep thinking my front wheel isn't responding... But it's because I forget i'm still in image review mode (where the wheel makes you zoom in to the image!)

Mine responds - but typically when in image review mode it will go forward 1 and then the next and then take 2 or 3 movements to the next and then it jumps back to an earlier one. It did the same when I had it altering the exposure compensation - it would move to say -1/3rd , -2/3rd but then jump off the scale altogether to - 4 stops. Unusable

Don't forget to wait until the camera is back in shooting mode before operating the dials. They won't do anything connected with shooting whilst in instant review mode.

It is definitely not in instant review mode when I get the problems!

Sounds like an extremely worthwhile upgrade. Movie editing in camera sounds good, as does the LV AF improvement

Now I want a K-7 even more.
I'm hoping the K-7 I've ordered arrives either tomorrow or Friday Couple of questions, if it requires a firmware update would this be safe to do on battery power, and what about warranty issues? Second question what is the minimum SD/SDHC card that would be practicable to use while learning my way around this camera. I have a Class 2 8GB SDHC card and a 4GB Class 4 SDHC card. Photography fund is rather empty at present

Firmware updates should be done with a fully charged battery. Doing a firmware upgrade won't affect your warranty. Your existing cards will be fine, don't forget to format them in your new camera before you use them.

So long as the battery is fully charged, there is no problem with firmware updates. However, it is best to charge the battery for at least a few hours until the light goes out on the charger. Being a new camera (I assume) it is quite possible that the latest firmware updates will be installed. You can quickly check it anyway by holding the Menu button while you turn on the camera. It then displays the current firmware version. If it is up-to-date it should display Ver. 1.11. The cards you mention will be OK.

K-7 No card in camera -> press MENU -> switch on shows version 1.0

Have formatted a sdhc card in the camera The sdhc card now has a directory DCIM so am I right in thinking the "root" directory is above this ie copy FWDC204B.BIN to (on my computer) Removable disk (H) NOT to the DCIM directory

Correct - ie so when you explore the card, the BIN file appears next to DCIM folder

Thanks for the confirmation alfpics. Update OK. ( After several seconds of buttock clenching )
I would have thought that as it was a brand new camera it would have been delivered with the latest firmware in place, the update prior to this one anyway.
