New K-7 Firmware

Tv mode has the same quirk. I took off the batteries, and I'll wait a while before re-installing them to see if it fixes the problem. If it doesn't cure the problem, I'll try to reset everything to factory spec, and re-adjust everything to my liking. Next step will be to dowload the firmware again and re-install it. After that, if it still doesn't work, it will go to Pentax Canada. What a royal pain.

I went to use mine this afternoon, decided to try using AF on the AF button again instead of half shutter and all the custom settings in the menu had gone. Absolutely nothing there.
I was sweating buckets for a while before I realised the mode dial had somehow moved to the green option and you dont get to access custom settings when using that one.

Take off the grip. Take out the battery from the body.
Turn on the camera (dunno if this really helps).
Wait a minute or three.
Re-assemble.
See if that clears the problem. Mine seems to get in a state where the body e-dials stop functioning.
Sometimes just removing and re-assembling the grip is enough to put things back in order.

As someone who has only owned a Pentax i wonder if the other brands have these issues;

Sounds like any firmware on anything electrical, I have spent many nervous moments upgrading computer motherboard firmware over the years.As someone who has only owned a Pentax i wonder if the other brands have these issues;

Just installed the firmware and had an initial problem with the autofocus juddering, dropped the battery out put it back in all is well. Pressing the info button on live view multiple times now works far better.

Already done that. It didn't make any change.

Still persevering with the new firmware, the autofocus does hunt more than it did, but that might be a custom setting that has been reset. My only gripe at this point is the new level display produced by pressing info twice, I first looked at this and though wow I can ditch my clip on spirit level, however Pentax have not resolved the one fault that stopped me using the inbuilt function in the first place, even with this new function the K7 still uses the light meter display as a spirit level through the eyepiece, this work fine until I want to shoot in manual mode then I have to go into custom settings and disable the spirit level before I can shoot manual. So unless I am missing something, looking forward to 1.11 or whatever they call it.

If you go into manual mode the spirit level is still visible in the viewfinder, the light meter display is also there but to the right in numbers rather than lines. You are now able to see both.

Thanks Mike
If you can hear a strange chomping sound it's me eating my words Although I still would prefer the option for this to turn off in manual mode. I relate better to a moving scale than some tiny numbers pushed on the right of the screen.

What about an audio tone that beeps more frequent the closer you get to the right exposure or spirit level.If you can hear a strange chomping sound it's me eating my words Although I still would prefer the option for this to turn off in manual mode. Something you have with gliders link

There is a bird called a Chiffchaff that has a very distinct but monotonous mono tone song, if it sounded like that my Pentax would be in the nearest river.link.What about an audio tone that beeps more frequent the closer you get to the right exposure or spirit level.

The first thing I did was to turn off all the bleeps for some reason the wildlife does not like it.

Regarding reliability, have I just been unlucky?
My K-7 is seven months old and has been back to Pentax twice. First time was because the Sensor was out of level with the viewfinder, now corrected - service report said recalibrated, but no fault found. I am waiting for it to come back (should be Wednesday) as this time the red focus point indicators failed. Focus worked, but no indication of which point it was using. This is a shame and unusual too, my K10D and K20D have given no trouble at all and the build quality is superior to C***n in my opinion.
Has anyone else had any troubles?
