Remote shutter release

I wonder what folks in here use.

This compared to the Pentax F seems good value. Has anyone used one?

Mainly for use in bulb mode

I've the f remote as well but the cactus v5 i've can also trigger the pentax so i'm thinking about getting the cable for it to try it out.

If you press the button on the v5 for 2 seconds it will lock it automatically and by pressing it again it will be released.
With the K5 you can actually set the camera to work like that.

Should be OK. All IR remotes are pretty much the same. The problem with the Pentax one us that it's got square corners all round so you normally have it the wrong way round and upside down before you can use it. At least the Amazon one is rounded off at one end.

The RF-602 (wireless) is about the best I've used. Green LED comes on for half press and it changes to RED on the full press. You would have to buy the Canon one (same jackplug).

Edit: Sorry just noticed the Bulb mode ref. I've never tried that with any remote.

Providing you can do one click to open the shutter and another to close should be fine - you don't want to have to keep your finger on it the whole time in bulb.

It says no Bulb function in the specs so maybe it can't do that.

It's always worth having more than one anyway..... batteries go flat.... lose it! etc.

Has a 'hold' function so you don't have to hold the button down yourself. You have to take the time to plug it in, but the with a wireless you have to take the time to switch the camera to the correct mode so six vs. half-a-dozen really. I have never found the length of the cable to be problematic, and wireless remotes tend to have a fairly limited range anyway. Plus a wired remote does not require a battery, so scores a bonus there.

Anyone tried using these as a trigger for a Pentax (K-5 in this case) in continuous rapid firing mode, as opposed to single shot?

I have a partially home-made "rifle-type" mount (which started as something I bought s/h from SRS Ruislip, and looks very vaguely like a Zenith Photosniper when the camera is mounted on it). However, with previous cameras (notable an MZ5N). had to use with one of those awful strap-on-to-camera devices which remotely depresses the shutter-release itself - and it did not work at all well or reliably. Did not work much better with the GX10 as the mechanical trigger button of the remote electrical release had too much travel to be very quick to use.

It would be dead easy to fit the Amazon device to the rifle-mount trigger handle, and that might give me the ideal combination for airshows, etc., where there I am trying to get a number of shots of an aircraft flying around - and it's cheap enough to give it a try.
