I,ve recently bought a new 16-85mm after wearing the old one out. Love the lens and is used with k3ii. Only 15k on the shutter. The new lens is over exposing and I don`t know why. I ahve included a shot. All setting to automatic. I have a polaroid uv filter on but had it on the last one too.

With the lens off the camera, move the lever that will open the aperture. if you let go will the aperture snap closed quickly ? try it also on the camera while looking through the lens from the front.

One odd thing about your photo is that the auto program used f32 for this shot with a shutter speed of 1/400 and ISO 200. I would have expected it to use a higher shutter speed before stopping down so far ?

I had the same issue with the 100mm macro, as pschlute says try flicking the lever. If itís Ďdampedí then it will need professionally cleaning inside as something has leaked onto the movement. It overexposes because the camera opens the aperture to maximum to take a reading and then snaps down to the required aperture for the exposure, but if it isnít quick enough then will expose at too wide an aperture. Try using aperture priority at maximum f2.8 or whatever it is, and it should expose correctly.

I'm interested in how you managed to wear out a lens in only four years (max) of use.

As a frequent user of this lens, I am interested in this too... did the DC motor die?

I bought it second hand and it got a lot of use and even stolen at one point. It stopped focusing properly at both ends so I traded it.

Wouldn't that just affect focussing rather than the aperture?
If the camera aperture mechanism failed it would fail on all lenses, not just this one. As Rob says, this lens is likely to have a sluggish aperture lever, though that's unusual for a fairly new lens.
Just check the lens by flicking the aperture lever and if it doesn't return quickly, it needs a service.

I was answering the above three questions about wearing my old 16-85mm out JAK. It has got a bit confusing.
