Problems with MV and MG

Having a common problem with a couple of my 35mm bodies.

These are aperture only cameras. Both are suddenly now reading under exposed even in high light levels.

The result is the mirror stays up and the shutter open for a huge amount of time.

Everything works OK on manual or bulb.

Not a battery issue as replaced them to be sure.

Not a lens issue as its common across different lenses.

My guess is its something to do with contacts on the mount as on one of the models it occasionally works, and sometimes changing the aperture can kick it into life.

Any ideas and suggestions for a clean up/fix?

I would double check the batteries. Make sure they are clean and polish them with a soft cotton cloth. Don't touch the contacts or batteries with your fingers. Also, check the battery spring in the camera is still making good contact and bend it a little if not. Corrosion on the contacts should also be looked at.

Then make sure lenses are fully seated and clicked home, after which there is little else you can do.

Given the cost of servicing, buying a replacement is probably the most cost effective way of fixing an MV or MG.

Hope that helps!
Best regards, John
