The 16th is black and merges with the black background. However, if enclosed in a white line that would do strange things to our perception of the shades. It's probably better to leave it as it is.
I've seen the effect of white lines demonstrated and it's quite extraordinary what happens.

Thanks John. It was just a suggestion to remove the need to count the 16 shade boxes for those that might have their displays set too dark but I guess we can all count that far .The 16th is black and merges with the black background. I agree a white box around it would mess up our perception, but how about just putting a row of numbers beneath the boxes from 1 to 16. On second thought that might be a bit ugly, just a row of 16 hyphens would serve the same purpose.

Actually, I think the spelling is done on purpose, it being an e(lectronic maga)zine. Hence, MageZine.

Well as you have to have a unique name the chance of being able to get "magazine publishing ltd" spelt korectly iz approximatly (sic.) zero. Especially as that name was taken in 1981 according to companies house...
Still shooting in the dark (literally and metaphorically)...

I remember reading about a CXompany that tried to be clever with upper/lowercase letters in their name and they got so pissed off that no one typed it correctly on letters that they sent to them that they sent out printed instructions to tell the typists how to type the name correctly. There is an entry for e-zine though. So the name Magezine isn't so bad. I think it's pretty clever actually - it sums up what they do (did) very well - magazine and e-zine publishing.

Might just be worth noting that just because you can see all the grey shades, doesn't mean the monitor is properly calibrated.
It's a start, certainly, but by no means the whole story.
I only started getting decent prints back from online printers after I calibrated mine with a Huey.

Did you use Argyll with Huey or just the Huey software?
I've just installed Samsung's MagicTune and can just see the two
white squares, but trying it with another greyscale that had more
steps I'm still burning out some whites. I had to turn the brightness
down to about 7% to get it right.... far too dark.
I might try Huey and Argyll again tomorrow.

I wonder if it needs a light framing rectangle around the series of 16 shades to make the dark end of the set more distinct from the background.
Otherwise very useful and a great addition, thanks John.
