I think the K10D was an improvement on the K20 before it even came out
Looking back over some of the best images I have taken, competition winners and PPG acceptances etc, most of them were shot on either the K10D or K5, I mustn't have got out enough with the K20 I agree it did have a very nice card slot though.

Pentax Camera Utility is the latest 'development' software provided with the camera on CD. It is written by the developers of Silkypix in Japan. I have just started to use this again, and it has its uses for a few specific jobs. But you must go onto the Pentax Website and update to the latest versions, and also I'd suggest updating the firmware of the camera.
In particular PCU is ideal for gaining access to the adjustment parameters (such as 'Natural', 'Portrait', 'Scene Landscape', 'Sharpness' etc). These are presets that can be useful to get the image quickly towards the sort of output you want.
Then you have the white balance settings, and most usefully, you can activate the distortion and Chromatic abberation corrections if not already active on the camera. I would recommend turning these features off on the camera as it speeds up the display of the image on the LCD after taking the picture. You can then apply the adjustments in the PCU software, and tweak them if needed. It doesn't matter if you shoot PEFs or DNGs, all the settings are available equally.
Lets be honest - this Pentax software is clunky and fiddly to use as you have to drag various adjustment panels up and down on top of each other, but the quality of the edits is very high, I think. The highlight reduction feature (which I've seen in Silkypix) is great - allows you to specify whether to recover more saturation or hue when reducing blown highlights. I have not seen that in other Raw Converters.

I used to find removing the cards from my K5 very tricky until..I started shooting with Micro SD Cards.
I leave the adapter in the camera and slot the Micro SD card into a card reader (usually with an adapter already there).
It makes life easier PLUS I can put the card straight into my phone to transfer / email pics straight away.

Looking at the photos I've take with K10D I concur it has a very special character. At ISO100 my K-5 has a problem to produce better photos.

Beware with the push and flick method Barrie. I learned to use it after aquiring the K5 and had to remember not to use it on my K10.
Now I've got a K30 and assumed it had a similar awkward card slot to the K5. I pushed and flicked to such good effect the card leapt like a slice of toast right across the room and narrowly missed landing in a cup of coffee.
I had no experience of the K20. I used and loved the excellent K10 but it wasn't up to the standard of the K5. Now I've got a the K30 as a second body to the K5 and I can't tell the difference in image quality between the two.

I use an Eye-Fi card. I hardly ever have to take the card out, so as well as avoiding the fiddly extraction for 99% of the time, it saves wear on the slidy card door.

It eventually goes soft oozes and gets everywhere
Magic Tape is much better also put the tape
on both sides.
I used to use Electricians Insulation Tape on
SRAM Cards in a Pocket PC...... OK for probably
30 years.
I have no problems with the K-5 giving it a quick push
in and then removing my finger out of the way fast.
Do you ever burn yourself pulling a piece of
toast out of a toaster!
