Kr remote control

Can anyone with more electrical savvy than me explain why it isn't possible to use the usb connection to act as a remote cable? Perhaps using one of those firmware thingies?
Those little IR remotes are just asking to get lost.

it has nothing to do with electronics and everything to do with software. Besides, it's been done. https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/topic/pk-tether-v-0-4-5-released-26176/p-1

Ah, I don't want to connect it to a computer, I mean a sort of usb equivalent of the CS-205 cable release.
The little IR job only works from the front or slightly to the side - I want to be able to use it from behind.

You could do what I did and make an RF remote. Works fantastically - has range, works from behind in any light and is portable. You will need to read the whole thread to see how it develops.

Cheers, Dave.

There's no way I could even understand what the forum was on about, never mind build one!

What I actually want is a simple switch with a usb plug on the end, rather than lug a computer around. A bit like the old CS 205 cable switch. And I've just seen the price of that - £60!

Was just going to say 'why don't you just buy a cheap £3 wired remote from eBay?' so thought I would download the manual first to stop myself looking stupid.

Then I realised it doesn't have a remote socket!

So the simple answer to 'why can't I use the USB port' seems to be purely because they don't want you too!

What a bummer for you, it would certainly annoy me as every Pentax camera we've had has the socket and an IR port on the rear!
