In rare cases the camera may not operate correctly due to static
electricity. This can be remedied by taking the battery out and
putting it back again

I am surprised they didn't blame SDM.

This has been in every DSLR manual that I have ever owned.

I have so far not been able to get the camera to jam so will put a battery which is not fully charged and see if this makes any difference

This was predicted in the mid-seventies by people who said
"Never buy a camera that relies on batteries"
Half Man... Half Pentax ... Half Cucumber

my k1000 ran for years with no battery! it was also my weapon of choice in the Acrctic when my mz5 got too cold to work!
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I had my K5 freeze yesterday, as described by earlier posters here and on Mike-P's link.

I was using AF-C in continuous high speed shooting, with frequent pressing of the shutter button, but not holding it down continuously.

LCD top panel and superimposed focus points in viewfinder froze and were unaffected by turning camera off then on.

Cured it by taking battery out then restoring.

Not a big deal but a bit annoying!

So that's why the Pentax flash system has not been updated. They removed the need for flash with high ISO?

My K10 and K7 need flash for fill and so do my D7000 and D700.

We live and learn.

Well its been a while since this happened but just got back from an short lived trip taking shots in continious mode of my son on a bike track.Camera kept jamming changed battery no joy there reset button ,battery out.. no luck recharged battery in but just get the message "Battery Depleted" which I know it isnt !
At the moment seems little I can do other than send it off for a repair.
Good job I have the K7 as backup
All the best

I had the same thing happen to me at the air show just as the Red arrows did a cross over.

Was not best pleased, hasn't happened before on this latest K-5. Even more hassle if you have a grip as you have to unscrew it and take the battery out of the body and then re-assemble.

Thanks Mike no grip attatched and still cant get it to function..my only other option at the moment is to download the latest firmware and if this fails its a return to srs...I,in desperation even changed the lens just in case Im glad it was just at the park although its testing my patience to be honest

After a couple of hours trying everything barring the firmware I contacted SRS and now the camera is on its way for repair.
I am left wondering if the first jam was more of a warning than anything else that there might be trouble ahead.... it will get sorted Im sure
All the best
