NOW THAT'S GOOD NEWS, in particular for those that had a clean sensor before but have now a problem with it. Proper cleaning should take care of their problem then I hope.Looks like it may be a problem with the glass covering the sensor:

But then that wouldn't be 'the problem' as in this widespread K-5 production fault, but just muck on the sensor glass. I get sticky spots on the sensor glass of my K10D and K20D fairly regularly due to crap getting in from regular lens changes in the field. A wet clean always sorts it.

Amateur Photographer have found out about the sensor issue now, front page news
Chris @ SRS (great shop, even though I think I might have got myself banned after finding a couple of nice bargins) sorted me out on Friday with a replacement, their reputation is fully deserved.

It may work for some who did not have had the problem from Picture one but my one was from picture one and no matter what I do I still have the marks in the same spot.
In my honest opinion, if your sensor was clean in the first place and then you get 'muck' on it it should be resolved with a good clean but if you got the 'muck' from frame one than you may have the fault and want to replace your camera.
I am not going in to 'how widespread the problem is' as this is something I can not comment on but some have clearly a problem but some may just need a clean.
Pentax.jp should really come out with a message what is going on. Also if it is oil it may be 'burned in' over time when the sensor gets hot and that would create an entirely different problem.
I don't think that we differ to far from each others opinion, I may just have a problem of bringing proper over what I mean.

Funny, I just been through the whole magazine (Issue Saturday 18th December, and yes I know it is only the 14th today but this is what is on the cover as a date) and I can not find anything about the K-5 issue at all.
