Been away for some time, surprised and disappointed to find this thread still active. I still want to buy a K-5, but given my location I don't want to get into hassles over returns if there is a problem. Is anybody in a position to offer an opinion on the current probability of getting a problem camera - less than 1%, 1-10%, greater than 10%? Thanks as always.:

Bought my K5 in April from SRS and 100% satisfied - Serial Number 4******.
I asked about the sensor issues and was told they've been sorted and all 2011 cameras should be trouble free. Although Pentax haven't actually given a technical explanation of the problem I was informed that it was likely to have been a bonding issue of the protective screen to the sensor.

That sounds very plausible, and might explain how these spots appeared over time.

I'm still keeping an eye on mine, since it isn't a 2011 model.
I'll be back in Bucks in September so I can always call in on Chris again then if any problems develop.
I shall have to leave the credit cards under lock and key though .

Newbie here.

Just got my K5. The manufacture date is Nov 2010 with a serial number beginning 395 and firmware 1.01

Someone else mentioned I should have a low threshold fr returning the camera and it is an "older" model with possible stain sensor.

Can anyone put my mind to peace please.

I thought Warehouse Express were a Pro Centre? In which case you have 2 years.

My (second) K-5 is from the same period and so far it is fine - well over 3000 photos on it. I am keeping a close eye on it though.
