I gave up and put the K5 on hold for a while despite the fact I loved mine I compromised and got K7 until the teething problems have all been ironed out and got fed up waiting to be honest

Similar experience for me but it hit me in the wallet.....

During the banter with Chris I saw a Pentax 500mm F4.5 on the counter and the banter led to barter ..you can guess the rest....

Indeed. I'm waiting for Chris to get back to me about stocks of the K-5 so I can swap mine as it has severe FF problems. I don't mind a couple of days, but 5 weeks!!

Sadly, five weeks seems not to be exceptional and some people wait much longer: http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-k-5-forum/135087-how-many-days-before-...

I presume that the past few weeks have seen a peak in returns because of all the publicity.

All the best,

Chris

I thought that FF can be fixed with the adjustment feature in the software

It's a low light/tungsten light problem

https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/topic/k-5-af-under-tungsten-light-issue------24...

it's looking more and more than 1.03 didn't fix it either.

I'm going to buy a Pentax K5 DSLR, hopefully on my trip to Australia via Hong Kong this year - in the hope of saving a little cash. I have read about the sensor problems identified on a small number of these cameras. Does anyone know if Pentax have identified a batch of these and is there a list of serial numbers for the associated cameras that I can check and avoid. I'd hate to come back with a dud!
Peter.

Serial numbers seem to have no relevance.

If you are taking a laptop then download Photome, take a picture and check the manufacture date of the camera.

Anything in 2011 should be fine.

I imagine that recent events in Japan are now impacting on deliveries of new cameras. Even if they are not assembled in Japan many (all?) parts come from there.

The tsnunami/quake only affected one region of Japan.

The Pentax Factory is located here

Which is quite high up and inland looking at the map

That is a SONY sensor in that Pentax camera is it not?
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Was Sony decimated by the perils of nature?

No, but they did close 6 factories in Japan.

Sony make a squillion different things. I'm sure 6 factories was a small part of their behemoth empire.

Indeed, and some of them are back in production. More info here:
