Mine had marks similar to nipper's, and SRS have replaced it.
Haven't got mine yet - it's still knee deep in snow somewhere. There's always tomorrow though .

@Jimbro66: I don't understand the reasoning for your comment directed at me but I will ensure that I take it with humour. This is a fantastic Forum with great members and a fantastic resource. I can see you are making an impact with other members too but I wish you well and hope that your sensor worries are soon addressed.

With regards to the sensor stain situation I have heard from my colleagues in the States that their problems are showing an opposite trend now... good news all round.

Hi Nipper,

I have been using Eclipse for a number of years now and it is the only product that I use for a wet clean of a sensor (together with the appropriate PecPads and wiping tool). I have not used this on my K-5 but have used it (when needed only) on my Sony A700 kit. It is for me, about the purest of products out there but I must admit that a successful wet clean is always in the action of the wipe.

However, although I am confident from my past experience, I never do a wet clean unless it is the absolute last resort. I can't forsee any problem using E2 as the new Sony sensor in the K-5 is only new as to the technology put into the sensor. It still has the same 'sandwich' design with a final glass element. (You are not actually cleaning the sensor surface). However, it may be worthwhile waiting until you have took some macro pics to see what impact any possible stains may have. Just for your further info, generally speaking, the majority of sensor stains on very close inspection have a 'halo' affect around them with a darker centre. Normally dust bunnies do not have this characteristic...

Hope this helps (and I too am still very glad that I updated to the K-5 )

Take care mate

This is my first time post here on the Pentax Forum so hello to you all, however I'm a very long time Pentax user (ESII, ME, MX, K2) and I still have them all!
Was seriously considering a K-5 but would like to see the sensor issue resolved first.
It seems that the Sony sensor is also causing problems to the Nikon D7000 too (see here) so it may not be easy for any of the non Sony manufacturers to fix the issue despite reassurances. Could it be one way of cornering the market, give all the opposition's cameras a bad name?
Anyhow do hope it does get resolved before the Pentax cashback offer ends but cannot see it beating the VAT increase.

First, Welcome to the forum, I truly hope you will enjoy it here.
Second, If you buy from someone like SRS or another Pro Dealer you will find that by now you will get a clean camera. Do not believe in a conspiracy here as this could major Backfire (and it will) and by now you should be fine as nearly all Pro dealers check their stock.
A friend of mine bought his one a couple of days ago, clean as fresh polished brass.
Get the K-5 now and do nor worry to much because even if it needs replacing you may NOW get a good deal, just make sure you buy from a Pro Dealer.
Enjoy your stay.
Kind regards

It's nice to be nice!

Thanks for the welcome. I've been reading the forum for at least a year now and would like to thank all those who give suggestions as to good reliable software to accomplish various tasks and comments on lens issues and so on.
I think you're right about getting it sooner rather than later. It has already proved itself to be a great performer and with a good guarantee should any issues persist with the sensor problem or anything else help won't be far away.
I'll let you know when I have 'taken the plunge!'

My new K-5 has just arrived.

I'm letting it warm up a bit before I use it.

Congrats, hope that this one is OK. You got mail today? Better then over here, don't expect any mail till Wednesday plus my postie is on holiday as well ! Oh well, can't have him working every day for my benefit .
Looks like more snow on the way as well overnight further north, but up to +10ºC for us in the south by Wednesday. About time too.
I get my one exchanged beginning of January. Hopefully it goes as quick as everyone else's.
May even get an exchange on delivery as this was in the last call from SRS as an option or an K-7 loan for free (if not enough K-5's for replacement are in stock).
As long as the sensor is clean I don't mind.
Kind regards

It's a normal working day here, no compensatory days given for weekend holidays, so yes we get post today. My newspaper was in the box at 6 as usual this morning too.

No Mail, no Courier Service, no Local Newspaper, no Buses (in my area but some Sunday service on selected routes) but shops are open for the SALE since yesterday when nothing was going at all. Crazy!
That's why I opted to have my camera exchanged at the beginning of January as there is Holidays till Wednesday 29th and then again from 31st till 4th when hopefully everything slowly gets back to normal.
So I reckon that I change my K-5 over after the 4th January.
Oh well...... Got enough 'booze' to keep me dizzy till then
Kind regards

Definitely a big thumbs up for Chris and everyone at SRS yet again.

Now to get it set up again. It has just about warmed up now.

If my K5 is exchanged on a warmer day than today the first thing I shall do is put it in the fridge. Sensor blobs can be checked any time but mine doesn't work properly under 5 degrees C.
