I don't have so much trouble with focusing on a certain object if i use manual but i find the auto focus on the K5 ( i didn't have this problem with the 100D or K7) is so temperamental in certain light conditions and really annoying, now it could me, and maybe it is
Mine is the same Maria, it's very inconsistent, sometimes back focusses and sometimes front focusses with the same lens! The K-5iis does not have this issue.

What sort of light conditions are causing the problem Maria?
Hi John, well as an example i went out in October on quite a sunny afternoon, i was under the trees with the sun shining down which was quite low by that time, auto focus wasn't a problem for a few of the shots but then it started doing it's usual back focus front focus noisy sound, i switched the ISO up which solved it for a while but then gave up and used manual, this is a problem i am having most of the time

Hi David, i wish i had waited a little longer and bought K-5iis, the K5 is a smashing camera in every other respect especially the noise reduction on high ISO which the K7 couldn't compete with, i do use manual a lot especially for flowers but for portraits i like to use auto focus if possible, i'm really finding it a problem

If you're having such problems then if it isn't a fault in the lens (does it happen with all lenses?) it must be a camera fault. If that is the case, it won't get better until you bite the bullet and send it off to be fixed.
Best regards, John

I happened to have spotted your picture of the Korean Dancer before seeing this thread. I happened to think it was one of the most impressive pictures I have seen. I cannot imagine what you would think is missing!

Sometimes I'm serious and sometimes not, but I consider sarcasm an artform. Which is it today?

It's happened with more than one lens John, but i've noticed other people have had the same problem.

I was taking low light photos of a play last night with the K5 and the autofocus was very hit and miss, accentuated because of the wide aperture. But I can live with it, it's not why I bought the K5.
