Interesting how the fashion of what is normal and what is special changes over time. I might have to dig out the silver Pentax 35-80 or 28-105 I have to match it, they match the MZ-30 I have and there is no talk of other silver Pentax zooms at the moment?

I have not heard of any silver zooms, but they announced a silver version of the 3 limited pancakes, 21, 40 and 70mm. Should be available in April.

I prefer the limited version, it will surely look great with silver lenses, and it will be different from many other brands' cameras.

Will it make me a better photographer? Definitely not. Will it make me a happier one? Definitely yes!
So then, the bling factor comes to Pentax photography.

I bought Titanium (silver is so last year ) coloured Limited lenses too, but only because there was no other choice at the time.

Maybe it's just nostalgic. I have a black and silver MX and last year bought a black and silver SPII. Somehow it looks "right".

I love the silver look on vintage cams.

It's odd, but I'd be torn between the black and titanium finishes if I could afford any FA Ltd lenses. The titanium makes it very obvious that you have something special, but the black is likely to be rarer in years to come judging by the few used examples I see for sale.

Personally, I think the standard Black is much more approriate

I had one in my hands yesterday. I agree that is matter of colour choice. I have noticed that side grip is designed much better then standard K5. Fingers just stick to body and handling is IMHO perfect, but propably K5+grip does the job too

Does anyone think later Black K5 might get the silvers updated side grip if it's an improvement on the original design?

Well they didn't do it for the K20D. The improved grip was a Japan only, return to manufacturer and pay a fortune item. Even though it was only adhered by a form of double-sided tape apparently.

hmmm... Pentax did the modification on the spot at photokina 2006 for €49,- you can also send them to (local) pentax and they will replace the grip for the same price.
I've asked that to my local dealer and they contacted Pentax straight away to ask.

Don't know if they will still do that?
ps. the grip also fit on the K10D

I would say contact pentax, they did it for the K10D and K20D so big change they also do it for the K7 and the K5

Maybe but personally I have no need to prove to any observer of my kit that I have anything 'special'

To me it's all about the images.

I don't have any FA Ltd lenses. yet. I plan to add them to my collection at some point, but I couldn't care less what colour they are ( within the bounds of taste - A pink version I wouldn't like ), I fancy them because of their IQ

Personally I don't like the limited edition K-5. The grip looks better, maybe, though I have no problems with the standard grip. But I don't like the bling factor. It actually looks cheap to me. I certainly wouldn't pay a premium to get one. In fact I'd rather have a coloured k-5 than the Limited edition one.

Just my opinion of course. I am sure those of you with them will be very happy with them, and I wish you all the best.
