K5 Jamming and locking up ?

The card I mainly had issues with was a Sandisk ultra (2gb from memory)

Hi Gary i use three cards

1. Lexar 16GB 100X Premium SDHC Card - Class 6 High Speed

2. And two of Lexar 16GB 133X Professional SDHC Card - Class 10
got other pentax km kx k7 with no problems

K5 returned today with replaced mirror assembley lets hope it is finally fit for purpose.
Must say I am totally underwhelmed with the level of service I have recieved from the retailer

I'm keeping a careful eye on this issue, which seems to be far more ubiquitous than makes sense if the K5 is really a good camera, and which seems to crop up rather too regularly for comfort in other camera forums around the world too. Why? Well, I've been promising myself an upgrade from my Samsung GX20 for some time now; as I already have the 18-55 and 50-200 lenses (albeit only kit lenses) and a Sigma prime 50 f1.4, it seems rather sensible to consider the K5 (probably with the 18-135 lens too). But this issue is a definite setback for me, especially reading the add-on problems caused by even 'bona fide' suppliers seemingly not being able to either recognise or fix the problem. Not only that, if so many people are having this problem surely Pentax themselves must understand that this particular problem exists and should be actively finding a solution and keeping their customers informed accordingly? It doesn't give me much faith in spending 100 odd quid for a camera and lens under such circumstances. Or are all these complaints really just the tip of a rather large iceberg and don't amount too much in the greater scheme of things? My heart would rather go Pentax K5 than Nikon D7000, but my head's confused to say the least!

Still waiting for mine back back soon i hope. Worried its an intermittent fault that will be missed had sold gx20 which i regret, camera less for now

I will put my hand up too, I have done the Firmware update 4 times now and must say I feel like I am playing Russian Rulette. I also wonder why when you buy a new camera it dosen't have anything like the latest firmware version ( maybe NO ONE wants to do it).

The thing is, if the real, as opposed to the imagined, risk was anything like as great as you fear, there would be huge numbers of cameras going back to be sorted out as a result of failed firmware installations.

They would never have it as a user-updateable feature if the likelihood of it going wrong was high. Doubtless there are a few muppets out there that use an almost empty battery, or switch it off half way through, or whatever, but they must be rare.

Most such muppets would probably never even know that there was firmware there to be updated.

Simple. If it leaves the factory before the latest version is released, it cannot have the latest version on it when you buy it.

You don't think retailers are going to take each one out of the box and do it, surely?
