My K-3 has just arrived and to answer your question, it's better than the K-5. Would still need a very slight correction, but not far off. That's after deliberately holding the camera quite a bit off level.DaveKitson wrote:

The problem with the K-5 was that you'd hold the camera level but the image was quite a bit off! That's using the automatic levelling feature - I need to retry using the indicator and getting the level from that.

Just popped out and shot a view with the k-3 including the natural horizon getting the level centred.
The sea/sky line seems pretty well spot on.

A lot weren't though. I have no idea how representative my experience was, but out of four I tried (probably from the same batch, admittedly), all were out enough to make the auto-horizon leveller useless.
Such a shame, it's a really clever use of the SR mechanism.

I'm wondering what you used to make sure the camera was level when testing the built in level?

Level the tripod. Push a button for 2 secs. 5 LED's flash
for about 5 secs. It's now set, but on the highest sensitivity
it's impossible to handhold. Difficult even with a tripod.

Just rotate the camera through 180 degrees.
It should indicate the same amount of tilt in the opposite direction if the surface is not horizontal, or zero both times if it is.

FWIW the horizontal horizon on my K3 is spot on, and it is surprising how much satisfaction this small thing gives me.
My first K-5 went back because of the level, and its replacement was the third one straight out of the box I checked in the store (the first two were worse than the one I returned).
So I took it home, all chuffed to bits, tried it at home, still fine.
Three days later, it wasn't fine any more.
My language wasn't the most refined, I have to say.
