I agree with Mike the K7 was not the replacement for the K20, but with all the cameras that Pentax are bringing out at the moment who knows what will be next at least they are still in business

The K20 was an upgrade to the K10, the K7 is a totally new camera, unless I have it wrong,

Just picking up on Jack's comment about the grip.
It is a shame it doesn't hold the remote but it does offer the facility to use 6xAA batteries as a get out of jail which the BG2 didn't. Additionally the physical shape of the BG4 grip is a big improvement on the BG2 (IMO), the BG2 was too slim and not chunky enough, the BG4 offers much more real-estate to 'grip' and as such, is in fact better for it's intended purpose

"Replacement" means a thing that replaces another. It doesn't have to be similar. The K-7 is a totally new camera that has replaced the K20D.
The K20D has been discontinued and you can bet there won't be a new camera that is more similar to it than the K-7 or K-x, therefore it has been replaced already.
The K20D was the previous top-end enthusiast's model; the K-7 is the current.

If the comment about quality stars relates to the JPEG quality, there is also a Premium setting (4 stars) on the K20D.
Best regards, John

If I take out an orange from a fruit bowl and put in an apple, the apple is the replacement for the orange.
The K20D was the most expensive model with a pentaprism and two e-dials. The K-7 is currently the most expensive model with a pentaprism and two e-dials. It is the replacement.

Yes John you are correct, I just checked and my K20 was set on 4 stars, I must have mixed it up with something else the X70 I think but I have sold that now anyway. If the comment about quality stars relates to the JPEG quality, there is also a Premium setting (4 stars) on the K20D.

for some reason i woke up wondering if I should trade-in my K20 and get a k7. So this thread was rather well timed (though i would add i wont 'trade-in' in the bibilical sense). However, as I'm none the 'bleeding wiser', the last half of the posts did make me smile regarding the correct usage of the words replacement and substitution.
I was going to confuse the issue regarding apples and oranges by throwingin a banana, but thought better of it incase I slipped up sometwhere along the way.
I even pondered the Canon 7D!!!! Boy, was it a rough night!!!!!!

first though I had 2 K20's now I have 1 and haven't used it since I got the K7, the K20 is more ergonomic than the K7, the K20 grip is better than the K7 as it holds the remote control which the K7 doesn't,
apart from all the extras that the K7 has one thing that no one has said is the K20's maximum quality goes up to 3 stars, the K7 goes up to 4 stars which to me means there is less compression on the jpg file giving you a better quality image,
I get a bit confused with the different controls on the K7 as I was used the the K20's but saying that I am now quite happy with the K7 and might sell my K20 to get another K7 but I'll wait to see what the replacement for the K20 will be, anyway you will not look back if you upgrade to a K7,
Jack.
