K10D - Wish list?

In an alternate thread I posted about flash compensation, the received wisdom was that flash compensation was achieved by changing the power of the flash output!
If that is not the case, then I would go for an option to change the flash power to eg 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 power
So does it, or doen't it?

The AF140C ring flash has no option to set a manual fractional power output. It has two TTL settings F5.6 & F22 which will set some (not all - refer to AF140C manual) cameras to those two apertures automatically. It still relies on the camera's body to use TTL flash control (quench). The only other setting on this particular ring flash, is manual (full output).

K10D does not support, TTL flash control (it lacks the sensor in the mirror box), therefore the gun must be used in manual mode. In my testing of this combination, the AF140C mounted on K10D, the AF140C only ever produces 100% output, irrespective of which AF140C switch position is used.

But it does work and produces excellent results in manual setting. Apertures as small as f32 may be necessary for very close work.

Absolutely true. I think it is arguably the best ring flash available for any macro work.

I wish that in future PENTAX DLSRs the LCD screen/monitor will be sealed around the edges to stop the ingress of dust. It's quite a small 'wish' for now but at the weekend I was viewing the screen on my K10D in full sunlight and couldn't quite believe how much dust had got in behind it. I now feel the need to seal the screen myself before more dust gets in.

Anyone else notice this or is it just me and my K10D (and that maybe I have a house full of rampant dust particles)?

I'm surprised, given the effort Pentax have made to seal this body!

I was very surprised.

I am thinking that regular enthusiastic cleaning of the surface with a micro fibre cloth (that maybe was a little dusty although not obviously so) could be the main culprit... I will be more wary from now on.

Not a huge problem afterall… just wasn't expecting to see that cursed dust there!

I wonder if rubbing with the cloth has induced a charge of static electricity which is attracting the dust.

Might have been worse. A huge genie could have suddenly appeared......

An 'in-camera' Genie is now on my wishlist for PENTAX's next DSLR. Think how useful that could be... the mind boggles...

If the Genie granted me 3 wishes:

1) To be as good as Lartigue and Cartier-Bresson in one!

2) For PENTAX to buy CANON in a hostile takeover!

3) To have £10 million so I could indulge my hobby fully!

I'll probably think of 3 better wishes in another 10 minutes.

1. a pocket sized device which renders all flash P&S flash units within a 50m radius of my position inoperable for 10 minutes.

3. A full height tripod which is as stable as a rock, folds down to slip into a shirt pocket and weighs nothing

it has just come to my attention that to plug in the wired shutter release you have to open the sealed door on the left hand side of the camera, exposing the data and power sockets to the elements.

What if you want to use a cable release in the rain?

IMO the cable release port should have its own door and should seal to the release itself.

so far this is just about the only design quibble I've been able to come up with, and its a small one.

I would like to have a custom setting that allowed the RAW switch to just give me RAW or JPEG rather than JPEG alone or RAW & JPEG. I'm not suggesting Pentax ditches the RAW & JPEG option, just add the third choice please via custom functions of RAW or JPEG alone when toggling the switch.

I would also like a multiple exposure setting that did not impose any limits. With the LX I was able to disengage the film winding mechanism and keep cycling the shutter with a motor drive for sequences of 100 or more exposures.
