K mount lenses - HELP!

Posted 04/11/2006 - 18:00 Link
I have an old ME-SUPER camera and several K-mount lenses. I feel it's time to update to a digital SLR, but obviously would rather not have to replace all my lenses.

Can anybody recommend a Pentax SLR which will have a compatibale fitting?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

THis question has been raised and covered a few times, basicaly all Pentax lenses will work (with restrictions) on all Pentax DSLR's.

This thread is the most recent explanation of what each version of the lenses will do on Pentax DSL's.

all my lenses are SMC apart from the 18~55 which came with the *istdl and you can switch the digital camera to use an aprature ring on m series lenses

you get more control with A series lenses as i have me supers and super As as well as *ist digital models

By setting the camera to accept a lens in other than A setting, and using either the green button or the meter in Manual, you effectively have an apeture priority lens. Just another step to the process, no biggie!

Your kit lens isn't an SMC. My ist-DL came with an SMC lens. I did the same thing tho. I set my DL to use an apperature ring and use all of my lenses that I had for my ME-Super. Works great but a split ring focus would be much nicer. And metering is no where as easy as the ME

If your 18-55mm lens has the Pentax name on it, it has the SMC coating. If its a Sigma of course, or any other third party lens it can't have the SMC coating.
