Hi, and well done for finding this forum - your questions in the right place
I don't think the pentax dslrs have the in-camera crop function. My *ist DL2 certainly doesn't and I'd be surprised if the K100d does. Even if it does, you be able to much more accurately crop a picture if you do it on a PC with photoshop or irfanview (www.irfanview.com) I would always try and get closer to the subject for the initial photo instead of cropping one that was taken from further away - it isn't always possible but it'll keep the image quality
hope that helps you

Hi Dave
welcome to the minefield...BOOM!
I gather from your post that your just getting your feet wet with "serious" photography, Mr.Ist's advice is excelent, get in closer fill the frame with your subject, no more worrying about chopping peoples heads off, what you see in the viewfinder of your DSLR is what you get, fill it with your chosen subject and keep anything you dont want out of the frame, after that your photography can only get better.

My name is Dave, and I've just joined the forum. I'm also new to the world of digital SLR,and have purchased a K100D. I am finding my way slowly, and whilst I like photography,my experiences have been limited to 'happy snap' cameras.,So my first question about this camera is this...I see I can enlarge a picture on the LCD,by zooming in,but can I take a picture of the enlarged picture. I could on my small digital camera, but don't seem to be able to work this out on my Pentax. I would appriciate any advice at all,as reading some of these posts,I can see I have entered a minefield .
Regards Dave
