K-7 price dropping already?

Stefan, not so long ago I bought the DA 18-55 MK II and DA 50-200 new from SRS for a price, lower as CameraNu is asking for the 50-200 now.
That was shipping included. So yes...the raise in the UK seems ridiculous.....or is it just catching up with the rest of EU and now paying the price for not having/wanting the Euro as currency.??
You tell me....

At Bodyheat: 19% VAT here in the Netherlands.

We have only 15% VAT currently (although I am sure they will raise it to 20% after this period is over), so for a VAT registered company to buy this from the Netherlands it would still be cheaper even if the retail prices were identical, which they are not. Here I would save 15% but buying from there I would save 19%, which is why I was interested in the Swedish price as their VAT is 25%.

We're paying the price of having a stupid arrogant government for the last 11 years that bought votes by creating hundreds of thousands of non-jobs in the public sector (sound like Soviet Russia at all?), that's all. You can keep the Euro my friend

Only if we also had the same VAT rates etc but even then there is no guarantee. Cigarettes and alcohol are cheaper in France but even though it is a 'free market' and 'free trade' area in Europe people in the UK are forbidden from importing more than enough for personal consumption in case they sell it and undercut the prices here and reduce uk tax revenue. The EEC/EU is a sham basically and a political construct to con people. Either it is a free trade zone or it is not. Currently it is not

Depends on how you see it, it has make things easier to import and travel to other EU countries right.
Probable in some time most systems will be pulled in one line so that more is possible.
Also if countries keep resisting then it will take longer indeed and there is always a country against a proposal. Maybe they need to give the EU more power but then you get something like the US is and we don't want that right.

Yes, price rises have been happening all around, but seriously this is just stupid:

FA 50 1.4 from £175 to £440
DA* 16-50 from £475 to £835
DA* 50-135 from £515 to £919

Can you name another brand that has doubled lens prices? Of course I'm going to be negative when a brand whose major draw is being good value for money suddenly switches to "boutique" pricing.
And yes, this is partly due to exchange rates and the broken economy, but still, someone at Hoya was hoping to pull a fast one with their profit margins, and it's just not going to work.

That someone should get the boot as this will never make them any profits. We in Singapore complained and the distributor listened and approached Pentax Japan to say that they will lose Pentax customers in Singapore as this group will buy from online stores which are much cheaper.

Nikon has raise his price quite a lot around the world, don't know by how much though and sigma went up quite a lot the beginning of the year.
Pentax really is playing catch up in the UK and the weak pound isn't helping you.

And to be honest the UK had great prices till a month ago, 20% difference with the prices we had here so you had your fun and now it's our turn

When I first bought Pentax 28 years ago it was normal that Nikon lenses were on average more expensive, but in many cases faster too, which justified some of the difference.

Now explain this current differential in SRS. It makes no sense to me or to anyone from a marketing angle:

Nikon 50 1.4 £239
Pentax 50 1.4 £439

Is the Pentax version twice as good? hmmm

Just turning to the 50mm 1.4, I thought it was out of production and so maybe part of the price hike is to restart production?

Well, of course it IS a free trade area. There are no restrictions on bringing in as many fags and bottles as you want if you are a genuine trader. The restrictions only apply to imports for "personal consumption", where people are simply trying to evade UK Vat and duty. Seems fair and sensible to me.

It's not SRS setting these prices, it's Pentax. SRS were good enough to warn us months ago that this would happen.
