K-7 price dropping already?

As no supplier in the UK has any UK stock as far as I know, perhaps we should wait to see exactly what the price will be, we can be sure that what ever it is SRS will give us the best possible deal they can.

You've just made the point that there are price differentials between the UK and other countries. Does that make you a whinger? No, we were just discussing facts of life. It's not whingeing to state the well known price differentials between the USA and the UK with things like the iPhone and Levi 501s. And as some people have pointed out here, all K7 pricing is in fact speculative at this moment as no dealer has stock, either here, Sydney or the Netherlands

It's irrelevant how long I have had access to the Internet (about 1994 in its crudest form but 1996 in the form we are more familiar with) but the point I was making is that 'for most people' or the majority of users it has only been accessible in any 'meaningful' way for the last 10 years or so. Before that most people either wouldn't have had access to it or indeed many of the online shops we see now wouldn't have had a presence so they could do their comparisons. So the price transparency we see now wasn't the same more than ten years ago and manufacturers could get away with more that they can now. For instance, 15-20 years ago Dixons had such a hold on UK distribution of electronics in the UK that it was almost impossible to get things cheaper as the manufactures had only one outlet in many cases and there was not the facility to buy from online or overseas.

It is whingeing to constantly complain of Rip Off Britain, which one hears all to often, just because the price in Britain is more than somewhere else in the world. That is what I object to. I fully realise prices vary, I have put up with expensive prices for Pentax and other goods, with no cash back offers or special deals for years. I don't immediately start asking if I'm being ripped off, or call it Rip Off Holland.

It's life. Life isn't fair so stop calling it a rip off all the time.

I am a member of several international forums and Britons are definitely living up to the Whingeing Pom title as far as most other nationalities are concerned.

Gwyn I realise you are a Brit and this is not aimed at me personally and no-one likes people who moan for the sake of it. But on occasion complaints are justified.

Where manufacturers clearly employ predatory pricing as in the case of Levis and impose unjustifiably high prices on the UK for example 'simply because they can' and which is completely contrary to the spirit of the market economy, I think is is fair and reasonable to make one's voice heard and IMHO it is a bit disingenuous to call someone a whinger where they identify a clear case of unfairness or even gouging at their expense.

I am not talking about Pentax her since no-one knows how this will all shake out, but I am making a general observation.

There is whingeing and complaining for the sake of it which is not becoming to anyone, and there is justifiable indignation when you can see clearly you are being discriminated against.

And yes, to an extent one can vote with their feet and not buy those goods in that country, but it is not always that straightforward as manufacturers find clever ways to prop up their policies like region locking DVDs or invalidating warranties if bought overseas. But luckily the Internet is ubiquitous now and things are much more transparent than before. Back in 1981 I bought my LX in Hong Kong. Why? In those says it was the cheapest place to buy it.

The only way that UK Dealers wouldn't know the final price of the K-7 "NOW" is if they haven't ordered any. Advance orders are taken on a fixed price and it's often discounted further depending on the quantity ordered and the method of payment. I'm not sure if Pentax still sell through wholesalers as well, if they do, the wholesaler has to know the cost exactly so that their reps can go out and sell to the shops.

It's different in the jewelry trade due to the daily fluctuation in the price of gold and silver.

Spoke to Chris yesterday, he still does not know his buy in price for sure yet. It's why he's not listed a price yet.

Unbelievable that Pentax can carry on like that. Is it any wonder hardly anyone seems to stock their stuff.

Mathers (my nearest pro dealer) seem to have fixed their prices at £1099 for the body:

Wish I hadn't just bought that 50-135mm now ....

You will probable be able to get it cheaper in Spain
It's €1149 (£985) here in the Netherlands so that give you more then enough room for the grip and battery.

Also just spoke to my local shop and they think they can do it for €1099 (£940)

It seems it will be under the €1000 (£855) around Christmas
That is if there is no price raise

Strange as people in the pentaxforums in USA and Canada are already taking delivery of their K7s in those markets in the last day or so
