Maybe people have found that the K-7 isn't as good as first thought
and demand for K10's and K20's has rocketed

The test was done by e-zone magazine not Ricehigh.

They actually have some very nice sample pics from the K-7 on the e-zone site. link

I agree George, at least from what I have read on his blog this guy seems on a mission to undermine the K-7 every which way he can

You need to do some research into Ricehigh's history. He is a mischief-maker, and I would not trust him an inch. Don't take his word for anything. If he quotes a report, read it yourself.

He developed a grudge against Pentax many years ago, and ever since then he has bought all their cameras then tried to do everything he could to find fault.

Quite a bizarre character; in particular beware his attempts to be "scientific".

Hmm, I have an opportunity for someone to bring me a K7 from the states. I'm expecting it would set me back £850 what with crappy exchange rates on using debit cards abroad (I would order it on my card for them to bring back). The Pentax international warranty is 1 year, buying from the UK would make it 2 years.

Do you guys think it's worth doing this, or better to wait for the UK price to drop to below £900-ish? I'm having a hard time judging how much/quickly the price will drop, especially given the idiotic lens pricing these days.

I must admit if it were only a saving £100-150 I'd be inclined to buy from a reputable UK Pro dealer

BTW the UK's nickname for some US manufacturers is 'Treasure Island' because they know they can always get away with Dollar for Pound parity on their pricing on many items. If something costs $1200 there you can bet they'll try and get £1200 here...
Books (well academic ones) have long been sold at a $1 = £1 rate much to the dismay of nerds like myself.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Well, my soon-to-be-imported K7 has apparently just been packed over stateside. Cost just about an even £800 (factoring in a little bit of MS Bing cashback). I would really like to buy from a local dealer, but seeing the recently announced UK prices I didn't really see the K7 dropping to within £100-150 of that price anytime soon. Downside is having to wait for a month before I can get my hands on it.

I agree, you got it for approximately two thirds the UK price. That's quite significant and puts it in the same price band as a D90 or 500D more or less. Very attractive. I HOPE Pentax UK reads these threads because they are shooting themselves in the foot IMHO
FILM - Pentax: LX, K2 - 24/2.8, 40/2.8, 50/1.4, 120/2.8, 80-200/4.5, 28-105mm 2.8 macro, AF 280T

DIGITAL - Nikon : D300 - 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S VR DX

It's not 2/3rds as you need to add shipping, import duties and VAT onto that price. You also get a years less warranty, IIRC.

Before you start celebrating your good fortune wait until it's actually in your hands. Items from the US can attract a substantial premium if they get caught in customs (duty + a handling charge) which from my own experience can be around 30-40% of the purchase price depending on the carrier. That means your £800 "bargain" could well end up costing you £1100-ish but with no UK warranty.

Not every package gets caught in customs but best to be prepared...
