Paint job then? But a very attractive one.

I cant believe that anyone seriously cares about the packaging.

"Also on the Pentax Web site there is a different link for downloading the firmware for the silver and standard models" Different link, but is it different firmware?

Re K5 firmware - they appear to be identicle - all the file info on the basic down loads is the same.

I've upgraded mine to 1.03 without any problems. Think the link I used took me the the US site - local UK/European one looks like it has been remodelled in recent weeks and it didn't have the same feel as the one I visited to pull down the new firmware. No option for a K5 SE version IRRC.

the big difference for me is the grip, and a large difference it is, too.

It's the only thing which would convince me to buy one. You can keep all the shiny bits, just give me the grip.

they use them.. thus they are pentax users

As you've got a special edition it might be best to return it to JP Solutions under warranty. Once fixed I'm sure things will be fine, although it's very frustrating when things go wrong.
Best regards, John

If you ask they'll probably exchange it for one of the nicer looking black ones (that work)...

Harsh, but true. My K-5 still hasn't arrived. So a part working one is better than what I have.
