Yes John I hear what you say, but, if the programmers (and they can) were to remove all the options on the cameras that were used and left only Pentax Cameras then all those with Nikon's, Canon's, Sony's, Fuji's, Kodak's etc. well you know what I mean would have second thoughts, anyone can join the forum and it is a great forum for Pentax users but they shouldn't upload images to the Gallery that us PU members help to pay for.

Jack.

I have followed and commented on many of the pictures on the Gallery for the last few weeks. In my opinion, many cannot possibly be representative of Best Photos. I get the impression that others, like myself, find it convenient to upload to the Gallery because of its simplicity. It is this simplicity that I long for to upload to Your Photos. Can that be so wrong to want? It is not my suggestion that the sites are merged, rather that the Your Photos site be alongside the Gallery site and as easily available. Is there an issue that requires the Your Photos site to be buried within the Forum ? If that is the case then I did have a stupid thought and leave well alone.

The Exif data can be changed and that we can do nothing about, If someone wants to change it then they must wish they had bought a Pentax in the first place, anyway I'm an hour ahead here and I'm off to bed, see you all Manyana.

It's a common problem that the forum and website always seem to be different beasts. It's the same on my own website, in fact in that case the main site and the forum are in totally different domains. Is there an issue that requires the Your Photos site to be buried within the Forum ?
There's no issue as such, only that the way pictures can be put into the forum software is different to the way they are put into a gallery. Different functions really. The forum just allows images, which are often needed anywhere in the threads as illustrations of a point.
Basically it's up to the members where they put the images and how they see the different functions of the different options.

I do agree, that main place for getting CC is Your Photos.
I post there, when I would like to see the reaction. Neg and pos.
And when other photos get my attention I will comment. I try to comment also photos where I see not many or any resposnses and I am able to think out some comment I really try How else the contacts are created ?
I cant help, that there are themes, that I am not interested... There other people for that
I started posting and LOOKING galery quite recently. And I do it not too often. For me it is mostly a way to get photos to my portfolio. This is the aim. But it is pleaant to see comments there as well. Ususlly I have got the comments already in the competition or YourPhoto section.
I think everything works for me quite well.
Notification of the gallery comments would make it perfect.
I had to learn posting the pics as well. This was my first meet with Photobucket and flickr as well. Everything can be learned and then it is not difficult any more
And if you post not too many of them, it is not so time consuming and there is more hope to get some objective CC.

As a compromise, and this would not involve too much bandwidth, could the fortnightly competitions go into the gallery alongside the weekly comps. This way the competition pictures would all be in one location where they could easily be viewed and accessed at later dates. For instance you can go back and look at weekly competition entries from more than a year ago but I defy you to find any but recent fortnightly competition pictures.
As for C+C, surely the best way to receive this is by entering the competitions. After the judge has passed sentence anyone can add their own opinions in the comment box.
I believe one way to improve your own photography is to study the work of others and to articulate positive criticism. It helps you to look more carefully at your own work.

The invitation has been there from the start to use the Gallery for all competitions, but no-one has taken it up.
Personally I'd like to see some more definite separation of the two competitions, and having them in different places does that. Otherwise we just end up with two set subject competitions on different time scales.
Does everyone adhere to the time strictures of the Fortnightly competition, or has that been forgotten?

Yep, but that is then restricted to the competition subject. As for C+C, surely the best way to receive this is by entering the competitions.
So, the pics I wanted C&C on recently might have to wait for months until a suitable subject came up, whereas this way, I got C&C the same day I took them.

Ted is right to correct me for saying the 'best' way to receive C+C is to enter the competitions. I should have said this was a 'good' way to receive comments.

Sorry for kinda stumbling into this thread, i've skipped through, but I get the gist....
I've never posted to the gallery, i've had a peek once I think, but I've always thought that (as a community) we tend to put our work in the 'your Photos' forum to enable feedback etc etc.
I regularly look through the 'your photos' forum threads to give feedback which I enjoy doing, and I'm less interested in the Gallery to be brutally honest, as I prefer the forum format.

It would be less likely that an Olympus User, for example, would join here, but not impossible. They might like the atmosphere here and want to join in general photographic chat.
It has to be Pentax only images though, and Pentax only sales in the Classifieds, otherwise it would easily turn into something else.
