It is each to their own, George. If you are practical, then you struggle with the technical world and the other way around. The gallery is a doddle to upload to. I cannot understand why uploading to the Forum cannot be done the same way. Being technical, you can probably explain why, but I doubt I will understand, along with many others. I find it so frustrating, having to upload to a host site, then remember all the different buttons, think you have succeeded and then nothing happens. It has as much to do with memory as ability.

I agree that, with the lack of notifications, the gallery is best used to show off your best pictures, while the Forum is better for giving/receiving C&C.

I also agree that a limit for uploading to the Gallery is in place, say, one image per day for non-subscribers and three images a day for subscribers.

Having said that, I don't find it difficult to post images in the Forum, following John Riley's sticking post. However, a small detail is lacking, which may confuse some users: Photobucket does not automatically copy the URL.

Perhaps my own step-by-step procedure can be of help to someone:

1. Prepare the image for uploading, 800 pixels maximum
2. Upload image to my album in Photobucket
3. In photobucket, click on IMG Code to highlight the address
4. Press Ctrl-C (Copy)
5. Go to Pentax User forum and click in the Add a Comment window
6. Press Ctrl-V (Paste) and, voila, there is your link

I am using Internet Explorer 7, by the way.

John, may I suggest that you rephrase your instructions for clarity?
Best regards
Terry

I'll have a look at the sticky and see what I can do to make it clearer.

Perhaps you could also ask the powers-that-be why we can't upload directly to the forum.

The short answer will be bandwidth, in the case of this forum a massive amount of bandwidth.

I allow direct uploading on my own websites, but it's not great and it's very limited in the sizes of image that can be used. Hotlinking looks better.

However, I will certainly ask.

I have now updated the instructions on how to post images. You will find this in the Your Photos section.

If anything needs further explanation, please let me know.
Best regards, John

Thanks, John. I'm sure most people will find the edited version easier to follow. Well done, and quick too

Just a thought, and ignore it if it is stupid, as some photos appear on both the 'Your Photos' on the Forum and then also in the Gallery, could the two sites be joined in some manner. I am thinking that it would not only be easier to upload to, but the present Gallery posters could see how the pesent Your Photos site works. Not very well put but I am sure the idea can be grasped.

No thoughts are stupid, but I still believe the two sections should be kept separate. The way I am thinking, if an image receives high praise in the Your Photos section, I would consider entering it in the Gallery. Maybe others think the same way, and that is why images may appear in both sections.

My opinion is that the Your Photos section is the place for C&C, and the Gallery is for showing off your best images.
Best regards
Terry

Except, Terry, I don't know the difference between a C&C photo and a best image photo. I suspect that defining the difference would take up a whole new thread. It is very much down to people's peception. I actually see pics on the Gallery BEFORE being posted on the Your Photos section. Guess it works both ways. Getting on Your Photos, for me, is an exercise beyond me at the moment. Maybe John's rewording of this process might enable me. I shall certainly try....best regards.

Well, Thoramay, if I have an image I would like to hear fellow photographers opinions about, I put it in the Your Photos section and ask for C&C (Critique and Comments). The advice received is highly educational to improve my techniques (exposure, focussing, composition, etc.). The automatic notification system alerts me if any new posts have arrived on the subject.

If I have an image I am proud of and would like to show off, I put in in the Gallery. There may be comments here as well, but since there is no notification, I may miss out the posts.

To put an image in the Gallery first, then in Your Photos, makes no sense to me.
Best regards
Terry

Having a "notification" tab in the gallery is on the list of things to do, as soon as it can be fitted in.

That is fine, John, and will certainly be an improvement.

However, I feel that the Forum is a better place to have an open discussion, which, as we have seen, can be quite lengthy at times. So I hope the two sections remain separated as they are now.

By the way, may I take this opportunity to thank you and your fellow moderators for keeping the Pentax User such an enjoyable site to visit!
Best regards
Terry
