My 70-200mm has gone off for repair. Cost £14 on a 24hr, £1000 insured Royal Mail special delivery. With the repair I've asked for the mount to be changed at the same time as it'll not cost me any more and it's future proofing the lens a bit then.

I have a Sigma 150-500 and I can see that it could be beneficial to have it updated now, even though I have no plans to buy a K1 or sell the lens.

I presume that the modified lens will still work on my K5 after modification?

No reason to suppose otherwise, the difference is the mount is now on a raised bevel to make the part in contact with the body the same size as a Pentax lens, everything else is the same.

Well I'm happy. Sent the lens back with the Sigma technician telling me over the phone it was £133 for the repair plus the free mount upgrade.

Had an email today saying it's just a firmware fault so with the mount change, firmware update, full check etc and delivery back it's £37.99

Result!!

Impressed with the Sigma turn around, my 85 and 70-200 OS were sent last Thursday (delivered Friday) for the lens mount to be replaced. Both lenses returned today (< 1 week) with a new mount. Only cost to me was the initial posting (still £29 for insured to cover both lenses)

Never tried them on the K1 before mount change which I'm glad about because there's very little space between the 70-200 and the camera body so I would imagine the old mount would have exerted quite a bit of pressure on the body.

Still not done my 70-200 or 85mm. Have also acquired a 24-70mm HSM f2.8 since so that needs to go as well. I don't intend buying a K-1 anytime soon (unless I spot an absolute bargain) so I'm not in a hurry but it would make sense to get them done anyway.

Anyone know is there a deadline on getting these done - was a bout to buy a couple of used Sigmas for my K-1 but current owners haven't had it done - I don't want to buy them if it's too late.
