Welcome to the forum Christopher. It might be a heavy load back as I will be bringing my DSLR kit with me there and will be coming back with 3 cameras instead of 1 hehe.
You are surely lucky, there are some that have a collection of MXs so you're in the right spot to ask everything.
PS. if you trade your Canon for a Pentax you will only need one set of lenses

Hello and welcome...I too am returning to the stills camera...done more than a bit with video, inc weddings, and christenings. Know more than a bit about rifle scopes...but they are all Nikons.
My old Pentax lenses fit and work well with my DSLR.

Just saying a quick hello as I just joined the forum today. I have been bitten by the photography bug pretty hard again as I picked up a DSLR (a Canon shhhhh) at the beginning of the year, after using P&S cameras for the last while since taking a photography course in high school some 15-16 years ago. Now that I am shooting with an SLR again and loving it, it got me thinking of getting a film SLR on the cheap to play around with as well, but then I realized that my dad may have the cameras he lent me when I took that course all those years ago. I contacted him and sure enough he still does!
When I asked my dad if he still had the camera he replied with "Yes. two of them. a Pentax ME & MX. I still have all the lenses - super wide 7 wide angle, super fast 35mm, telephoto, X2 adapter, motor winder for one of the bodies and a couple of flashes." I couldn't get any more details as he was heading out the door for a trip, but he is going to get me details and photos of the kit this weekend, hopefully, and so I will know more soon.
I am heading back to Canada for a visit in May and I plan on picking up the cameras and kit when I am there and bringing them back with me. It might be a heavy load back as I will be bringing my DSLR kit with me there and will be coming back with 3 cameras instead of 1 hehe. I am excited to get my hands on them and so I figured I would join this forum to learn as much as I can beforehand so that I can start to enjoy them as soon as I can.
I look forward to being part of the forum and please bear with me if some of my questions are a bit noobish, but it has been a long while since I have used film.
