Has this website slowed down?

IE8 here is fine, Virgin is fine, but the ISP does slow down a couple of times a day and needs the router to be rebooted when that happens. After that it's back up to full speed.

Just a reminder that for anyone not on ADSL2 and not LLU'ed, (so are using a BT interface, or an ISP using a BT interface) that regularly re-booting your router can cause a degradation in your BRAS profile (Broadband Remote Access Server) and slow down your connection. It can then can easily take more than 3 days of stable connection to recover.

There are details about this all over the place but my favourite is here:

http://www.hmmm.ip3.co.uk/index.shtml

This is one of the reasons why I'm now on LLU and ADSL2+

Cheers,

Maybe so, but what do you do when everything just grinds to a halt?

Obviously its not a problem with Virgn but if you are unfortunate enough to be connected to a BT DSLAM there is very little else you can do without making it worse.

Unfortunately cable operators, like Virgin, cover only a small part of the country and not all exchanges are enabled for ADSL2+ LLU. Then a BT connection may be the only option.

While using a 3rd party ISP on a BT connection I have had the situation when the wireless part of the router has locked-up and I have had to reset it to find that the speed of our connection has dropped and taken over a week to recover. I think in these circumstances that the advice is to use a router re-boot as a last resort. BT users can check their BRAS (IP) profile using http://speedtester.bt.com

Our 3rd party ISP feed fell apart in March when BT made some changes at our exchange. I'm now with BE* unlimited using ADSL2+ and I'm consistently getting twice the speed on what is a long and noisy line

Hi guys. Still looking into the problem.
To help us out could you do the following
1. Start -> Run type cmd
2. This should bring up the command prompt
3. Then type tracert www.pentaxuser.co.uk
That should show how your computer gets to the server.
If you could either take a screen grab.
Or you can right click and select mark it.
Then after you have marked the section copy it and put it in this forum thread
or email to
[email protected]
then that would be a great help.

TBH Richard our IT system at work is so awful that everything is slow. I'll do it again from home now - no real problems with speed here. If I do have a slow-down then I'll do it again.

C:>tracert www.pentaxuser.co.uk

Tracing route to www.pentaxuser.co.uk [85.118.234.131]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

No, the site doesn't seem slow,
you mean my overall internet connection? I can do a speed test if that helps and give you the results
