Maybe Oggy can enlighten me.

I was at Belvoir Castle on Saturday - without camera and suddenly at under 1000 feet the Vulcan flew over.

I can only guess it was taking off from the "home " airfield in Leicestershire to fly up to Sunderland, Windemere and East Fortune.

I was certainly very impressive.

I'm surprised the darn thing was flying!

I was hoping to see it at Cottesmore last Friday, but it had tech problems...

Did you enjoy the game fair? I can see the castle from my house, but I've never yet made it!

Had two good days there - It can be a good opportunity for photography in certain areas and a look of opportunities. As the location changes each year on a 4 - 5 year cycle the events and exhibitors do vary.

The Vulcan caused probably 40,000 to look up when the roar started.

I saw it at Leuchars last year, but the weather was so poor they would only risk a couple of fast-ish runs up and down the runway.
No flying display but it made a good noise!

Might have more luck this year. Maybe.

Cheers,

Al.

Hi Polchraine

IIRC she had been at Fairford for RIAT the weekend before and would have been in transit up North for East Fortune/Windermere/Sunderland appearances.

With a bit of luck I get to see her three times in August

From Fairford it would not have gone over Belvoir - especially at what was possibly as low as 500 feet. Where is the home airfield?

It's home is Bruntingthorpe. Hopefully at the weekend I will be down there shooting a Subura Event!

Seems about right ... Belvoir is about 30 miles NNE from Bruntingthorpe. May have beeen a little low or did they intend to do over fly at a viewable height above the Game Fair?

It could of been a flyby. Normally min height over built up areas is either a 1000 or 2000ft... I can't remember the figure.

I was in Wicksteed park in Kettering (where I live) on Thur.23rd. and the vulcan flew over.(height ?) I got a few edge on shots with my bigma as I was there with the grand children. In the past when they were at Wittering one flew over me as it was landing very close as I was traveling north on the A1 and frightened the s*** out of me. I was also driving near the airfield near Lutterworth when they all (about 7 or 8?) left on their very last flight to be scrapped. What a fantastic plane, and I'm not a plane buff. CHEERS Vic.

The best memory of the Vulcan I have is from the RAF Finningly airshow. I was about 8 or 9 and they did a fourship scramble as part of the display. It was just incredible!!! The smoke, the noise... WOW!

I can remember it as vividly as if it happened yesterday!

A list of the Vulcan's planned outings can be seen here.

It is also worth looking at the top of this site for news about cancellations.
