small and compact to small for me
think pentax/Ricoh have missed the boat if only the had made it mirrorless i think they would have made a killing with the camera
put a da 300 on it and its well out of balance takes great photos though

but on the brit side the rep did say it it IS NOT A REPLACMENT for the k3ii which is good and when asked
about the k3 ii replace ment he just smiled and said i cant comment on what is going to happen next

on a differant note i would like to thank the guys down at srs for the use of a mirrorless camera
she is playing with the photos as i speak and all i keep hearing is oh i like that and thats a good idea so things may change yet chris

Surely you could put the KP in liveview mode and use it like a mirroless if you prefer that? Best of both worlds!!

no think of how light the mirroless are and how many people are getting shut of dslrs

you hear it all the time on here going mirrorless for the wieght

all those lenses have to be changed but think what would happen if you could have mirrorless and dslr useing the same lens without an adaptor

The K-S1 is 558 grams and many mirrorless's are pretty much the same as that. Even the MX-1 isn't much lighter at about 400 grams. I normally prefer having a proper viewfinder but I'll agree there are times when a lighter camera can be an advantage. If you really want a versatile lightweight camera get a Pentax Q. The Pentax's are often heavier because they feature a metal body shell rather than plastic, its not just because they have an optical viewfinder.
Optical viewfinders are becoming quite scarce on compacts and we don't want them to vanish on DSLRs as well.

Oh, I'd better check my camera case, has someone pinched it out of there, or do you mean its vapourised? (Guess that's possible with a magnesium body, go in a flash!)

If you mean new ones you won't have any trouble finding one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Digital-Cameras/31388/i.html?_from=R40&LH_ItemConditio...

I actually liked it a lot. It is not much lighter or smaller than the k3ii which they had there as well. I didn't have much time as I was heading to the gym but if it was not for the price I would buy one. I am mainly on the Fuji camp so I can't justify a second body at that price but maybe it will fall a bit later on? Though the k1 is holding up its value really well so far

the price is going up the k1 is going to be on the 2grand touch by april
but its not just the pentax every thing is going up

so if any one wants some new gear jump now as you will pay for it in just over a month

i think if i remeber right with what chris said the sigma lens 50/500 is going up in april from £899 to £1099

That's a shame , it is not worth £1100 to me let alone any higher than that . I'll stick with my Fujis if that's the case!

Did you try the differant grips , I assume the larger grips are their to accomodate the larger lens. as for mirrorles , they have the same issue with larger lens.
I dont see what differance a couple of hundred grams are going to make.

Afterthought. Stu62. If the kp is too small for your hands then mirrorless will be too correct?

It won't happen, but there's no reason why a dslr couldn't have an off centre electronic viewfinder also.

With the mirror up, a dslr is in 'mirrorless mode'. With on sensor phase detect AF points in the K-70, smart tracking options could be implemented like many mirrorless cameras offer.

If the same lens mount is used, then mirrorless and dslrs have more in common than they are different really.

Issue I can see with the KP is that it's priced really high for what's close to a K-70 internals. It doesn't have the k-3 1/8000 shutter etc and I think you are paying a lot for the 'retro' casing, which I personally don't mind the look of.

Mute point for me through, as I'm not buying a new Pentax until they improve on the 2012 video spec (most importantly returning mechanical SR during video). At which point I'll buy it regardless of what housing they put it in.

The kp is already priced at the higher price so that won't go up because of its release date.

Don't get me wrong it seems like a good camera but it's not a upgrade for a k3ii which the rumours was on about which is a good thing

why should the prices going up? The new Pentax policy is weird. Is it working out at least?

The kp won't be going up in price but every thing else is it's not just Pentax

Canon Nikon Panasonic sigma Tamron every one across the board are doing a price hike
