This is an important observation and I agree. It's not that prices are going up, it's the price of the new model compared with other Pentax models. I think the KP is a very good mid-range camera and I want it to succeed, but can it do so at almost double the price of the K-70 which is also a very good camera (SRS £1099 v. £559)?...Issue I can see with the KP is that it's priced really high for what's close to a K-70 internals...
Cheers.

It's not the companies putting their prices up, it's to do with the drop in the dollar exchange rates, or that's what they'll blame!

Any company importing from the Far East or the USA using the dollar will have seen their cost base hit by a round 18% against the GBP , you can't absorb those sort of costs without having to increase your prices.

yeah but, if I am not wrong, Pentax already increased the prices few weeks after brexit. The k1 was originally at 1599 and now it's possible to find it at that price only with deals. Same goes for the lenses, therefore the prices were already aligned with the weak pound.

but there's no reason why a dslr couldn't have an off centre electronic viewfinder also.
With the mirror up, a dslr is in 'mirrorless mode'. With on sensor phase detect AF points in the K-70, smart tracking options could be implemented like many mirrorless cameras offer.
If the same lens mount is used, then mirrorless and dslrs have more in common than they are different really.
Issue I can see with the KP is that it's priced really high for what's close to a K-70 internals. It doesn't have the k-3 1/8000 shutter etc and I think you are paying a lot for the 'retro' casing, which I personally don't mind the look of.
If you replaced the optical viewfinder with an electric viewfinder that would remove the need for the mirror and you would end up with mirrorless camera instead of a DSLR!but there's no reason why a dslr couldn't have an off centre electronic viewfinder also.

There are some significant diffences between the K70 and the KP
27 Point AF in KP Vs 11 in K70
5 Axis shake reduction ( 5 stops) Vs 4 axis (4.5 Stops) on K70
86K pixel RGB sensor Metering Vs 77-segment metering
New Sensor
Metal to Plastic body

They was saying that the k1 and the kp are in there words totally driven by Ricoh which is understandable
And as for the k1 you can still get it for the launch price if you ask the right Q to the right people if you know what I meen

They put up a lot of prices throughout the world. Raw materials and production costs can go up as well as down. Insecurity in the trading world due to the political situation also contributes. The pound falling only makes it more painful for you, and results in a further price hike.yeah but, if I am not wrong, Pentax already increased the prices few weeks after brexit. We had the same here when the pound was high against the euro. If you could have been bothered to look at European shops then you could have found some real bargains.
Edit btw SRS have for today only (12 February) the K-1 at the original price!

On the flip side, selling old equipment on ebay is a breeze. The majority of my recent sales have gone to Italy.

Yes, but the fees both flea bay and PayPal hurt more than they used to, I now look elsewhere to sell.

Yup, I got my 150-450mm from Europe nearly 2 years ago now. If I remember correctly it was a good £250 cheaper than UK prices st the time.
