I had it twice with the K10D that the sensor failed or something in between since I got blank photos with a green line across it but for the rest it's working fine after a putting it on and off.

I was convinced I had a problem with my K10D, and discovered a faulty graphics card was destroying the pictures.

Can't be the graphics card, then. Battery was OK?

It looks like a sensor problem to me. I was going to suggest that it was a sticky shutter curtain, but then realised, it's a vertical run shutter so that's unlikely to be the cause.
It should be repairable but might not be economical to do so.
Have you tried another battery?

nope it has a shutter because switching the sensor on and off doesn't work. I cant find ANY form of shutter in my K10 or 20, I assume the sensor just switches on and off.

Use two second delay while not using a lens and you will see the shutter.
ps. a bit more explained.
Reading out those pixels takes time, so you need to cover them up because if you cut the voltage they will lose their information and if you don't cover them up the will keep on reading the light.

And so it does Stefan, I'm glad someone is awake and knows what they're doing. I've only looked inside and fiddled with the sensor for cleaning so never actually seen it. I always assumed it wasn't an actual physical shutter but rather the sensor which activated pixels in a simulation of one, vertically of course
nope it has a shutter

Have tried a new battery, with and without the grip.
In live view you can see it before taking the image....spooky like 2 halves with different exposures.
Roy
had thought of getting it repaired but may just save for a new k20d or even a k7
