I believe it is, yes. It's about as full a reset as you'll find at user level I think. I've no doubt there's another that's accessible to Pentax technicians, though.

Shaking it, maybe the pixels will fall back in place then?

I know that Canon replaced once all the sensors of one of their series because they had a fault in it, maybe if you send it to Samsung they might be helpful?
Simply send a e-mail with one of the photos with exif attach to them and see what they say.

If the sensor is a Sony creation then don`t be too surprised. Had a problem with a Handycam sensor and just before binning it I searched the net for any similar faults. Found that just about every range of camera had stuffed up sensors. Enquired and hey presto Sony doing a free out of warranty repair. Then again it might not be one of theirs.

Cedric, GX20 use the same samsung sensor as the k20D and Canon develop their own sensor and I believe the problem was only with Canon, if they used a third party then others would have suffered as well.

btw we never had much problem with the K10D senors and the models before that, they were or most of them all Sony
Now with the Samsung we first got the green line problems with the k20D and now we still have those problems with the k7 so you tell me which one is better or worst?

Hi Stefan, I have no knowledge of who uses which make of sensor. I was sharing some limited knowledge about a global issue with Sony sensors. Really glad to know that the K20 is from the Samsung company. I guess it`s a question of once bitten twice shy and I would never knowingly buy a product with a Sony sensor. Having said that though the video camera was returned repaired within a week which included postage times. I guess camera manufacturers are like the car manufacturers, they get the public to finish the quality control in real life situations and if enough complain they may do something about it.

Yeah I know what you mean Cedric but the sony sensor is the mosted used sensor in DSLR land it seems.
Pentax have used them, Nikon use them a lot, and sony of course so if sony was really that bad then we should have heard a lot more complains.
Now the only DSLR that use a samsung is pentax and samsung and what do we hear... complains so I don't like it that much that we have a samsung sensor, even the upcoming K-X use a sony sensor and we have heard here that the sensor is even better then what the K7 can produce so...

I am only guessing but the video camera sensor issue happened after a few years of ownership, four in my case. As I said I nearly binned the thing. So possibly a lot of people like myself thought that as the camera was well out of warranty that it was not worth repair. I was idly looking at the web when i came across an American site with a list of faulty Sony empowered cameras and i thought it was worth contacting Sony.

If enough people globally have issues with part of a product and with the Sony issue it was to do with the compound that the sensor was embedded in then manufacturers ought to have an indefinate period of warranty for it. That is if K20D owners are having issues with a samsung sensor then Samsung should warrant free of charge repair outside the manufacturers warranty period. In the UK a six year period against goods being faulty is the case. Albeit it has to be on the owner to prove that there was an inherant fault from new. Like the Sony sensor issue it did not become apparent always until after several years.

What bugged me about is was the fact that I hardley ever used the camera and the first time I put it on a tripod to use on holiday the view failed as i watched the scene in the viewfinder.

Whilst I take your point, Cedric, this sort of thing can happen to any manufacturer. Sony wouldn't have got where they are today if they made a habit of producing faulty goods.

In fact you could argue that they will have learned from this experience, and are LESS likely than perhaps Samsung to produce a faulty sensor in the future!

Perhaps a log could be kept on this site to record equipment failures/faults. Could be useful to future manufacturing or just a place of interest for prospective owners. George, I see where you are coming from and it is hoped that Sony have learnt. I have this thought in my mind though of a few million laptop batteries from said same manufacturer. Going off at a bit of a tangent from the original thread now though.

i emailed samsung asking there opinion the following answer came back

holding the power button down,,,,,it's a switch!!!!!

I rang Samsung customer service,explained problem,gave serial number (but i have no receipt).
Outcome they are going to fix it under warranty as it is less than two years old,even though i have no receipt,as i had registered it on-line and the serial number says it is under two years old,
I have to wait for a letter to come with the job number.
Will update as things happen.

Hopefully a good result, good that Samsung responded too. That is very positive and at least shows a concern for customer satisfaction.
