Foam kits? CLA?

Although my new baby the ME Super seems to be working just fine and no light leaks I'm thinking it would either benefit from me replacing the foams (gone nice and sticky) or perhaps sending off for a CLA. Do they do the foams in a CLA? its it a simple job?

Any links for either in the UK and a rough idea for costs?

Thanks

I think they might . . . if I knew what a CLA was

Enlighten me (and possibly others) please.

Thanks for that S Raff.

I think most companies (Asahi Photo and Harrow Technical at least) will replace light seals during a full service.

Best to ask them to, just to make sure.

Rather worryingly, Harrow Technical's website has gone off line. Anyone know anything? Hopefully not a victim of the recession, they were excellent.

Thanks, Kris.

Thanks chaps, I'll give Asahi Photo a call in the morning. From their website details seems they do replace the seals.

I love this little camera and its got me wanting another, one for colour and one for BW. Although I am thinking about a MX instead, have to see what's on offer.

ME Supers are a dime a dozen on ebay but most will need the seals doing. MXs go for a bit more but are lovely cameras too, and have a few features the ME Super doesn't have although manual only. Both are lovely classics and the best two of the M-series cameras. The others (ME, MV, MV1 and MG) are all auto only and less useful than the MX and the ME Super. The ME-F is essentially the same as the ME Super but with focus confirmation. The only downside is it has a weak battery compartment cover (which seems to be a recurring theme in Pentax kit for some reason!)

Best wishes and have fun, Kris.

Guys, If you have a camera that has dissintegrating or sticky light seals you can easily and cheaply DIY!
There is a seller on Ebay called interslice that not only provides the kit, but the after sales service as well.
The kit less than £6 is enough material to do 6 slr's. Along with this kit you will require a craft knife, a rigid steel rule and a can of lighter fuel. All instructions are included they are extremely detailed and comprehensive any further information is provided by Jon the vendor(via email).
My first attempt was an ES11, with sweat beading on my brow and shaking hands it was like I was doing a heart transplant. The second and third where much easier an ES and a Spotmatic. I still have loads of material left and will be doing an ME super at the weekend. I include the link for an auction by interslice, if it doesn't work you can do an advanced search for interslice. Good Luck. Geoff.

If that is all that needs doing, then yes, go for it. The advantage of Harrow Technical and the like is everything else they do. My LX had "the sticky mirror problem" only it turned out not to be the usual problem, but something electronic. Harrow fixed it for the same price as the standard service, and did it very quickly. I hope they are still in business! I have a small stack of cameras that need servicing...

Cheers, Kris.

I've used one of their kits and re-sealed most of my 'M' series cameras.

The kits work well and the instrutions are clear and easy to follow.

Thanks for the link. For just doing the seals this kit looks ideal.

And an MX that should give many more years service now I reckon...

There aren't many companies that I have no hesitations in recommending but Interslice are certainly one of them. Not only a great product but the service was second-to-none too. I really couldn't have asked for more!
