With regard to shot #3, I acknowledge the technical imperfections cited by others but quite like the 'soft' effect. I would perhaps crop some of the greenery from the right-hand and bottom edges, but overall the concept doesn't require a great deal of fine-tuning.

I like the intent of the third image Maria, but for me there needs to be an area that is a bit sharper. I also wonder whether a light vignetting around the edge would help to focus the eye a bit more, as it is I tend to find myself wandering all over the image, not knowing exactly which bit to look at. I think you have done others similar to this one that have worked out better.

Thanks for all the comments everyone, i find it quite difficult to get this sort of shot right, shooting through the foliage and trying to get the main point of interest sharp isn't that easy there will always be a leaf or something similar covering it, you need very long arms and a pair of scissors leaning over the neighbours fence doesn't help either, back to the drawing board methinks and i'll take a look at some others i have done

#3 doesn't work for me Maria. Its a good try but the overall effect is out of focus rather than soft focus.

Apart from the fact that I hate to see children wearing baseball caps (just a personal thing) this is a wonderful shot, great composition, lovely colours and nice lighting
I would prefer to see his hair though instead of that red cap

Charming, Maria, in terms of both composition and content. Child portraits tend towards a head-and-shoulders format, so it's nice to see something with a bit of context. I'm not sure how many kids go rambling around the countryside nowadays, but it's reminiscent of the world in which I grew up.

catching up, 1. an excellent portrait and great use of b&w, did you by any chance pp in some of the oof area?
2. definitely my favourite so far ,dandies do make a great subject to play with and you have made something special with this, for me anyway

The contrast between the natural tones of the surroundings and the vivid colours of the boys clothing really make him stand out.
To me it also tells a story " I'll check to see if any body will stop me going through this gate"

I've seen this one before Maria and thought it was lovely then. It's still lovely now and it shows that this 'is what you like to do best'.

It also seems to be 'out of focus' rather than 'soft effect', if that makes any sense..... (I know what I mean anyway)
