Filename

I have a K10D and wondered if there is some way to hack the file name default? I have now gone past IMGP9999 and returned to IMGP0001. I'd prefer to have unique file names even if I use sub-folders. Any ideas?

You could use an EXIF renamer tool. That way you can rename the files based on date, time, shutter count, aperture etc. There are plenty of freebies around.

Personally, having more than 50k images, I keep my archive in subdirectories of yeardate-event

e.g.
images20092009-12-04 Pentax User Tests

Then RAW converted images go in a subdir under that, as do processed images.

Keeps everything tidy

That's not relevant to the K10D though, which doesn't have the option of changing the filename prefix.
