Ebay returns

I had some dodgy tubes once, the springs behind the locking pins had lost their, err...spring, it was a simple job to remove the mounting ring and restretch the springs and reassemble them, they did eventually stop working again but I simply restretched the springs again, when I finally sold them I did mention the fault. I wonder if these are my tubes being recycled?

If a business seller... then you can return no matter what the seller says.

If a private seller, tough, you have no cover from UK consumer law...private sales are strictly 'buyer beware'.

ebay auctions by business sellers are exempt from distant seller regulations, so you cannot return because you changed your mind, however sale of goods act still holds, for faulty or poorly described goods...

Thanks Guys, even though it was only £8, it's the principle, and why should an ar5e like this get away with selling defective gear and not declaring it?

Have you contacted this seller yet? threaten him with negative feedback, remember that as a seller he can no longer respond in kind. it might be worth £8 just to ruin his rep

Steady on there. A simple enquiry first might resolve matters. Threatening negative feedback is actually against eBay codes of practice and is likely to cause you a problem with eBay on the grounds of intimidation.

It was fairly obvious from the beginning the item was going to be faulty from the not tested in the description ... and as you were the only bidder it seems sensible to assume others thought the same. As you stated, you took a punt on getting something on the cheap and it didn't work out.

Personally I would just move on .. but that's just me.

I didn't actually mean "threaten" and I did ask "have you contacted the seller yet"
Having said that if someone is selling dodgy stuff and trying to get away with it with the common disclaimers like "sold untested" "might be OK" "I know nothing about this" etc etc then they deserve all the negative feedback we can give.

Why not use the tubes for parts and make this - a reverse ring flash holder. All is not lost!

Just need some araldite and an old 49mm filter with the glass removed...

The item is significantly not as described, and as he has listed it with the item specifics as :
"Used: An item that has been previously used. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or an item that has been returned to the seller after a period of use. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections.

So, you can return the item but may have to go via the eBay/PayPal buyer protection.
An item can only not be returned as it is listed as 'Spares or Repair'!
As the tubes do not work as intended to be and this has not been specifically mentioned in the listings you are in your rights to return the item as it is damaged.

...has this changed then? because ebay business sellers have always had to adhere to those regs.

Yes they do Steve, it's the first thing that changes significantly when you op0t to become a business seller.

That is what I thought, that ebay business sellers HAVE to adhere to the distance selling regs...and that they are not exempt.
