you charged it properly, right?
so that means fully charging, fully discharging, and repeating that for *at least* the first three charges?
Storage for long periods in a fully charged state? If not, you've broken it and you can try arguing for a new one, but I wouldn't bet on it....

Never heard of that before for 'Li-ion' batteries :you charged it properly, right?

How much do you use the LCD screen? Live view and lots of reviewing will deplete a battery quite rapidly.

If the LCD display remains, you might have a fault with the camera. When the battery dies, everything turns off.
If you know anybody doing electronic work, you can ask him (her) to do a load test on your battery BEFORE and AFTER the camera dies on you, so you'll know for sure if you have a problem with the battery or the camera.

Thanks to all for the comments - very much appreciated. Battery was fully charged/discharged. Firmware up to date. Not covered by warranty. Looks like I need to replace. Better luck next time.

advice would be much appreciated. I purchased a new K-7 January '10. Not much use - only about 1800 actuations. Now the battery is failing after about 150 shot and needs recharged. Camera just jams and dies- although LCD disply remains on top - even when turned off. Works OK when recharged, but only for another 150 shots or so
Is this a faulty battery and should it still be under warranty? Just checked - £60 to replace.
