DA 300 + TC

Has anyone used a TC with this lens. Stefan passed a comment in the post asking which 5 lenses would you have. I tried the lens with my Kenko 2 x TC (it has the contacts) but could only be used with manual focus. Would be nice to be able to use AF. Used on K10D.

yes you can use the Pentax 1.7x Adapter. Put the lens into MF and give it a nudge to bring to close to focus and then let the adapter do the job.

But you get normal AF with it.

If you want SDM then you will need the Tamron 1.4TC.
Just make sure that its the one with 1.4X Pz-AF MC4 written on the TC. This one works with SDM and gives you full SDM function with the lens. I believe that there is another version of this tammy that will not work with SDM.

Lastly, if you want the highest quality then nothing beats the pentax Adapter the first one I mentioned.

Hi Amin, the 2 x Kenko has the contacts for SDM plus the drive for camera drive AF. I had rather hoped not to buy another TC. It`s a Kenko DG Pz-AF 2X TELEPLUS MC7. Which is I believe tamron in any other name. So Failing this I guess I need to look for the Pentax TC.

DG Pz-AF 2X TELEPLUS MC7 should work I believe don't have it though.
It does make good contact with the lens and camera right?

Stefan, I have wiped the contacts. It works with my Tamron 28-300. Seems a little odd that with the DA 300 nothing happens.

There were a few threads around here that a lot was discussed about TCs and the compatibility of them for specific lenses.

A few of our veteran members such as Stefan and others here are very well versed in this matter, its just a question of you getting hold of attention of one of them who knows about this specific TC.
One of the members from this group of well versed people in TCs is Mike-P because he has had a few over the years and has a lot of first hand experience. Get hold of him and he will clarify to you in an instant.

The Kenko DG Pz-AF 1.5x TELEPLUS MC works for sure, there are many reports on that on the web and thought that the 2x should also work, it's basically the same so strange...
Will look more on the web for you don't know if i find anything though

You got MC and not an SHQ version, that might be it.

Yes you need the SHQ version for it to work with your DA*300. I had the non SHQ version and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work until someone here raised it.

I ended up getting the Pentax 1.7 adapter and the Tamron 1.4 and both work with SDM.

300mm F4 + 2x converter = 600mm F8.

Didn't think autofocus worked at F8, not enough light?

Depends also on how much light there is but even without enough light it should hunt, it doesn't even do that.

Hi Stefan, thank you very much for your help. Yes it is the one in your picture. I tried it today in seriously bright sunlight and absolutely nothing happened.

The Pentax 1.7 adapter is my preference!.....gives you 510mm 6.7...and there is no noticable difference in image quality.....and you can still find them out there.....Ken
