-7C on the way back home last night, but a balmy and pleasant sunny -4.5C when we set off this morning....

Cold?... COLD!. Pah! You bunch of cissys, you!
This isn't cold. I came into the world, slap bang in the middle of the coldest winter of the twentieth century. My first few weeks of life were spent lying next to the single paraffin heater we had (we was poor but 'appy, Guv'nor!). If the cold didn't kill me, the bloody fumes nearly did!. In fact, it was so bleedin' cold, the Thames completely froze over. Something that has only happened a few times in recorded history. - That's cold, Mate!

I'm glad I'm still not in my narrowboat, with no heating except a woodburning stove.... getting up half an hour early to light it before scuttling back to bed was not much fun, especially on work days

But then again sitting by the fire on a frosty Sunday afternoon, looking across the frozen canal, was a nice little compensation

-14 here today... that is about 15 below the average for this period!

Temperature is going up here. It's now -2 C. Fortunately, we just got about 4cm. of snow last week. I say fortunately, because a dirty S.O.B. stole my snowblower last Tuesday, right in the middle of the day. I hope the thing blows up in his face. It's the second snowblower I got stolen in 11 months.

It's being rationalised, hopefully prior to acquisition of new stock.

I've had something of a realisation, namely that (speaking only of single malts, I hasten to add) I've never had an Irish whiskey I really like, and equally, never a Scottish whisky that I don't like.

So I've been working hard at consuming the Irish ones as quickly as possible, to make some cabinet space for some nice Scotches.

It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.

It was exceptionally cold down here in the smoke, today... 'Taters', as we cheeky, chirpy Cockneys say. Coldest day so far, I'd reckon. Yet... No snow!. The rest of the country seems to be getting some of the luverly white stuff, but none down 'ere. I feel cheated. Left out!
I do like a bit of snow. It makes the neighbourhood look so much nicer. It covers up the dog turds and the discarded syringes a treat.
Yes. Very cold, but not as cold as the day your own dear mowog was born. Oh no!. Now that was proper cold. In fact, it was so cold, that bird's wings froze solid in mid flight, and the poor creatures would glide helplessly into the sides of buildings. Yes indeed, Trafalgar square was knee deep in rigid pigeon!
P'raps I'll get some snow tonight.

I swear the snow on top of our patio table is 12" deep, I'd go out and measure it but I'd have to use the french doors as a snow plough
