Broad Bodied Chaser

Took a stroll down the very local SSI site yesterday afternoon, not been down there for 15 years or so.

Within a few minutes there was a male Broad Spotted Chaser dragonfly on a stem and then 30 mins later a female who proceeded to lay her eggs on a leaf a fraction under the water about 10 feet in front of me.

All K1 - 1/1000 sec - ISO 200 with a Sigma 100 - 300 F4 @ F6.3 - Handheld

Wonderful, Chris. Great colour, detail and devoid of the blown, highlights resulting from the combination of water and sunlight that often blight pictures of this type

I have watched and photographed dragonflies engaged in similar activity, but rarely with the degree of success seen here

Brilliant, especially shot 3 - your hands must be a lot lot steadier than mine!

Excellent captures of beautiful subjects.

Always envious of people who can capture hand held photo's to this degree. I'm lucky to own one of these
lenses and although I don't lack strength, I haven't been able to master the art of steady.

Fantastic set - great technique and a sign of a VERY steady hand!

I was trying to capture some chaser images a day or so back - it's jolly difficult even to get acceptable shots, so these are really superb.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
