Best Bokeh Lens

Will your photo looks very nice and not just the bokeh!
I believe the older lenses have a better bokeh then the newer one because of the correction they do to make the lens sharper.

This is taken with the FA* 600/4 ED [IF]

Bokeh wonders? I must admit that I don't really understand how to categorise out of focus areas as having good or bad bokeh.

Are these good or bad or just so-so .....









Both were test shots taken with a 1963 (yes, 1963!!!) Tamron 400mm f7.5 prime soon after I acquired it. I bought it for a song on Fleabay but haven't used it much as yet.

Hi All,

Just thought I would put in a word for a new Pentax lens, the DA17-70. I have been pleasently surprised with the bokeh from this.
First at f6.3, second at f5.6, both at 70mm.

Andrew Bokeh is something quite personal, so what someone consider as bad might do wonderful in a photo.

The photo from Doug is one of the lesser pleasant Bokeh.
You can see in the top middle the halo/doughnut shape disks and those make the photo quite nice now but it can just as easily make the whole blurred background far too busy.
What we want to see is a evenly light distribution over the disk or a brighter core.

With your photos it's quite hard to see with what kind it's build up so can't say.

David, I like what the FA 70-2200 has done with the hard background. Certainly the ground is hard to render and the lens did well.

Stefan...here is the "humble" Bokeh of the lower end lens...it is the 18-55mm kit that comes with the "humble" K-m.

JudithAnn, most of the time it are the humble lenses that preforms the best.
Really a lovely photo, was quite amaze you could focus so close with the little lens.

The heather isn't the best example. I was picking out a single bloom from the general scrub. The background is busy as the object is right in the background. Also the strands of grass create a strange interference as they lengthen out of focus.

Here are a couple more where the objects are separated from the background by more distance as are most of the other examples.

Didn't get a chance to go out and shoot like I hoped. but here's an ornament shot with the 85mm soft..
at f4, so it's a little sharper, and the out of focus highlights show the shape of the aperture blades... looks a little nicer at f2.2 when the boke is round... but mabee I'll get the chance to shoot something interesting tommorow.

Doug don't worry about that, the DA*50-135 has also very busy blur just behind the DOF. When you know you just be more careful about it.
