I use that sketch as the basis for my opening lecture in the "Introduction to Roman Archaeology" course... Sadly one Roman author --- I forget which --- described beer as "asses p.ss".

My Dad, (Who was Cornish) told me the same thing about rats in the Cider, When i asked Gillian Bulmer (Whose family used to own Bulmers Cider) about it she told me that it was an important part of the process to include protein!
