Another pointless thread

My favourite Brubeck album is one he did with Jimmy Rushing which I picked up in a jazz shop in New York - how cool (or is that pretentious) am I?

Out last night for the flying club dinner where I had my second Christmas dinner this year. I always wonder why we can't have turkey all year. I love the stuff.

Picking up the bike today, so if you don't hear from me you know why!

Did anyone hear the interview with Dave Brubeck last night? It was a repeat of one Paul Gambaccini had with him on the eve of his 90th birthday.

It was actually really interesting, even for a non Jazz fan like me.

Edit: The weather must be better in Edinburgh than it is here - no-one would go out on a bike voluntarily here today.
Have fun with it, and be safe.

Edinburgh is sunny and warm. Well not cold anyway. A bit of a breeze but nothing too bad.

The most important thing is the new bike has heated grips!

After heaps of snow on Friday and -8C and sun yesterday it is at least warmer today, 6C, but it is chucking it down. The ground is still frozen so it is very dodgy in places on the roads.

Don't forget to turn the heated grips OFF!

They flatten a battery faster than a steam roller when the engine's not running.

Apart from that, enjoy and have a good ride home Gareth.

..and he was only 89.

The Sky At Night will never be the same again, and a sad loss to the percussion world as well.

Indeed. He was a lovely eccentric.
My husband met him once when he visited the Lab where we worked prior to a satellite launch. Unlike most of the TV people who presented bits from there (Tomorrow's World springs to mind) Sir Patrick was knowledgeable and interested and asked intelligent questions. For the rest it was just a presenting job really.

Bike feels good, although the weight is a big difference at first. The automatic gears are superb - no creep like on a car. On the flat, stop with both feet on the floor and the bike just stays there. Twist of the wrist and you're away!

Went for the genuine Honda ones which turn off with the engine. Just have to remember to turn on the ignition before moving the bike. Otherwise the alarm comes on!

Good choice Gareth, a couple of the lads at work had heated grips, Oxford after market ones, and they had to bump start their bikes regularly in winter!

No such luxuries for me,I'm an old fashioned cold fingered biker. That and office tied at the moment!

Beer time, here's to a long and happy biking future, cheers.

Got to be said, it wasn't that cold today, but going around the bypass at 75 without inner gloves my hands were toasty, to the point I had to turn them down.

Might even have to get the bike down to Whitby at some point, but the big test will be the bypass at rush hour. Should be much more fun when you sail past the traffic!
