It was always my dream to retire to the centre of England, as far from the sea as possible in any direction, so Newbiggin by the Sea wasn't a dream come true . I'm glad I live as far from the sea as I can get (in the UK).

On ther other hand it's quite amusing standing on the cliff top watching the "Sunday Sailors" getting into bother during an unexpected squall

Parents have been w/o leccy for over 12 hours.
Best friend's wife works on 2nd floor of an 18 floor tower. Her desk is next to a support pillar; she has a photo leaning against the pillar - it's making noises as the building 'wobbles'.
Two downtown building have been evacuated - one building's brick wall is buckling.
And this is all in CLEVELAND.
and Cleveland is in Ohio - not anywhere near the coast !!

Sorry this next bit isn't at all pointless, but I need an answer.
Do iPads emit any wifi radiation when not connected to a wifi router?
I ask beause we are visiting a friend tomorrow who has a pacemaker and has been strongly warned that she cannot have a PC with wifi connection. We were hoping to use the iPad as a means of showing photographs of our grandkids
regards

Yes, the wireless signal is two-way so there is a risk, however minimal.
If you put it in Flight Safe mode (or whatever Apple call it) then all the radio is turned off so you will be fine.
Remember to check your phone is in flight mode too!

Modern pacemakers can normally cope with Wifi, which after all is everywhere, not just in the person's home, but also out on the street, in cafés, libraries, hotels, offices, trains, just everywhere. My home Wifi signal reaches over 400m for instance! My neighbours signals likewise, and then there are all the other houses around us.
Apple say you should not hold an iPad within 15cm (6") of the pacemaker, even in airline mode.
I think your friend really needs to check with the manufacturer on the WiFi aspect of her pacemaker. If it really is that sensitive then her neighbours using Wifi could affect her, and you can't ask all the neighbour not to use Wifi.

Thanks folks,
Could put it on DVD/USB stick but we're meeting in a pub for lunch and neither of us has a laptop, just my wifes iPad.
Hadn't thought about Flight Safe mode,- good idea.
My mobile is rarely on - its primary use is for me to ring out, and I never do that when I'm with someone/at lunch/'on the train'/etc
I'd be surprised if it wasn't safe in the presence of local wifi emmissions but I don't want to be the one who has to take her to hospital if it's not.
Looks like, to be on the safe side, we'll be using our old 2"x3" photo frame
many thanks again

Provided the iPad is in safe mode and she doesn't hold it up near her pacemaker it will be fine. Really. The old photo frame is a bad idea.

Last day of work before the long weekend. Heading to Whitby tomorrow.
Can't wait to get out of my current contract. It really is the worst job I can remember for many years.

AT least it's a job Gareth. But it is no fun being in a rotten contract.
His Nibs has had his fair share of those too. He is now working for his employer full time instead of being sent out on contracts. He is working on getting them their ISO certificate and on their new financial system. Should see him nicely to 65 + 1 month, and maybe even beyond part time.
Forget your woes for the weekend and have fun. I hope the weather is kind to you - it looks like it will be horrible here from tomorrow.
