Well done Dave, I hope it proves to be an interesting and educational time. Hope you have some other income to tide you over!

Just been chatting to the Photomonk by Skype - he's at the PPE in New York today . He sends his regards to those who remember him.

He's now a Nikon free Zone

Was having a shot with the K-30 - seems to be quite impressed with it

OK, you've talked me into it. Although leaving the house in the hands of two teenagers doesn't seem conducive to a restful break.

Depends on the teenagers. We've left our house with our three when they were teens with no problems. My brother on the other hand left his house with his two teen sons for just one night and came back to devastation, a police report and neighbours who wouldn't talk to him for a year.

TT- say hi to the Photomonk for me. If I were going for a new camera it would probably be the K-30 nowadays.

It's not that they're bad. It's just we've all heard about the 'Facebook' parties where huge numbers of people turn up uninvited.

I worry that the youngest may not be able to stay in control of what is going on!

I think a strict ban is in order!

Will do - will be chatting this evening [ my time]

He's looking for a new body - but I doubt it will be the K-30 He's using an Olympus at present , I'll find out once he has it - he won't tell me what it is till it's in his paws

If I were buying a new body - bearing in mind the dampness that seems to happen up here it would really have to be a weatherproofed one - though I do now have an Op-tec rain sleeve

Is everyone standing by with skis, snow shoes, shovels and skates?

Winter arrives in an hour!

It's already arrived in Northumbria according to the Mail. They are already saying it's colder than Moscow, Arctic blast, shiver, shiver, panic! Blah blah. Even though the Met office says it will be gone again by Sunday.

I'll dig out my snow boots sometime. The snow shovel is where it was left last winter. I do have a stock of salt. I'm as ready as I'll ever be. I'd just prefer not to have to make use of any of them.
Luckily here it is only going to be a tad nippy.
